Hi All,

Just picked up an FN2 Type R as a daily, as I was dying of boredom driving a Saab diesel to/from work. I've noticed that when changing at high revs the engine seems to 'hang' or even rev up for a second before dropping, which makes quick gearchanges a bit messy/unsatisfying.

Is this a feature of the car or a fault? My EP3 never did this, but obviously that was cable throttle rather then DBW and a few other differences I'm sure.

If this isn't normal, where do you think I should start looking? Throttle position sensor perhaps?

Thanks

James

Hi James , ive had issue's with this in my old Ep3 just after leaving it idle for 2 weeks.

The revs would hang on , up to around 3.5k. All i did was take it for a proper blast down some B roads and it cleared it's throat.

I have had issue's with my current Ep3 , it has a Skunk Tb and inlet and it used to be quite sticky. However since ive been using the car with it fitted now (it was a secondhand TB) it's absolutely fine.

Also does the FN2 have an ICV? May need a spray with some intake cleaner if so.

Mine did this. I always thought it was mapped in to counter the light flywheel causing the revs to drop too fast for casual drivers when they lift for a change. I got used to it fairly quickly and it never bothered me after that.

I found this with my FN2 when I had it, especially going from a DC2. I thought this was a normal trait of the FN2 with a heavy balancer shaft for the oil pump, like a heavy flywheel effect. But unsure the extent of yours, I got used to mine after a little while and got satisfying changes using most the red line.

Although my dads 2.2 Diesel has a similar issue but is an intermittent fault with the TB and has 175k on the clock.

It's the standard ECU map.

FN2 rev hang is a common complaint. You either have to live with it or go for a custom remap with hondata or ecutek.

Sorry all, forgot to check back in with this thread! I've quite quickly adapted to it, and barely notice it now. Might be an excuse for a map at some point though, if I decide to start playing around with the car a little!
