The only problem with an ISF, besides the potential for higher bills than a Legacy, is how rare it is to find a good one within budget.

I wonder how the figures would compare importing one. A mint 2008/9 ISF with say 60k miles over here is £17/8k[ish] if bought privately. Would if cost more all in, to import from Japan?

Speak to Torque GT, they do offer a service for specific cars...

In terms of rarity of the Legacy STi,

Quoted from my car spec

"Produced specifically for the Japanese domestic market and limited to just 600 units the Legacy “Tuned by STi” is a rare car"

There is a S402 Legacy for sale on the UK Legacy site, but its probably ISF money - I would get the V8 myself.

Apparently the guys at Torque said with an upgraded downpipe and a decent tune, could easily get over 320bhp.
You have to be a little more careful on the 20X/Y motors as the bottom end is no stronger than a WRX and they run a higher CR.

I'm not sure that's quite right. The car advertised (now sold) looks a lot like the Liberty TbSTi that we have in Aus. Quoted power is the same too. I was looking for one of these a few years ago...

LOL.. Its sold because I bought it... It was imported to UK.

I believe they're the same car... Australian market call it a Liberty... are Liberty's TbSTi easily to attain in Australia?
Sorry if the quote is incorrect... I assumed it to be true because been quoted elsewhere... might be the loophole that if they rename it a Liberty in Australia they can can produce more of them!

Could you elaborate further please as I'm new so trying to understand as much as possible about how to set up the car.

I obviously want more power, but don't want to blow the engine... I thought the EJ20 was quite a solid block... and gets weaker in the 400hp threshold.

Yeah, that S402 is ISF money. If it was auto and an estate, I'd think about it smile

I might give Torque GT a buzz and ask them an all price for an early, grade 4/4.5, 60k mile ISF. Actually, I've seen a couple of really nice Jap Merc C55 estates, which have recently sold, I might ask them about one of those too!

Do it... I would recommend them... they know their stuff and have guys in Japan making sure they get the right car!

I watch their auction room.. free to set up login... my god its interesting seeing how much they pay for them... so tempted to buy a few and set up shop in Surrey... maybe I can persuade them to franchise the service here in Surrey! Hahahahaha

Thats quite a few... so maybe thats how they got around the limited run in Japan... Changing the name for AU to Liberty!
I've seen another location for the statement... https://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/09/subary-legacy-... ....
and another that says only 300 were built of the Liberty... https://www.topspeed.com/cars/subaru/2007-subaru-l...

Either way the Legacy TbSTi is a rare car in the UK compared to an Audi RS4/6 or Impreza... Just had a look at that website... thats for whole of Australia... and the mileage on them is high... The Uk just about fits on the West Coast LOL
