I went into my local Honda dealer today (St Albans) to put a deposit on a new Type R and was told that they are not taking any more deposits. They have over 40 deposits and don't believe they can fulfil those orders. I questioned this on the basis that the cars haven't started arriving and presumably there will be a production run of several years but the sales guy was pretty clear that he expected the whole production run to be sold out.

The only ray of light was that he said when the price is announced this week, they may see some depositors drop off the list.

I know cars are in short supply but based on my experience, it appears that Honda Type R has moved into the same market as Porsche GT products.

If anyone knows a Honda dealer in the South East that is prepared to take a deposit on a new Type R then I would be grateful for a heads up.

Harry Metcalfe bought his GR Yaris from the arse end of Scotland.

Probably worth ringing round several dealers including a few in poorer areas, they're more likely to take your money.

If the rumoured £55k price does materialise expect 90% of those orders to disappear anyway.

I would have thought the RFL tax penalties on a car over £40k would start to be significant ... avoided by the GR Yaris.

I think I'd still be looking at a good secondhand one ... since the new version apart from being a little prettier, is supposed to be very little better ?

I have a Sportline Type R and it is brilliant to drive. And I say that having owned all sorts of nice cars.

I placed a deposit on the new Type R, but don't think it will be quite as good on UK roads. So might just stick with the sportline.

Anyone sitting on the fence, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Type R!

Think the FL5 will be a better car all round then the FK8, will come to life on track though, will know soon enough on price. One more sleep

All that we know is very little, from the off they have said will be limited run model, priority going to America and Japan. We don’t even know how Honda U.K. will prioritise who gets a car, I hope it’s in deposit order as I’m number 1 at a big dealership in the North west, should find out price tomorrow.

Let’s hope they have fixed the gearbox issues on this one.

All FL5 Type Rs for the world are being made in one factory in Japan (where other Civics are made) - on a bespoke line.
LHD FL5 Civics are being made in the USA in HUUUUGE numbers, but no Type R models.
There shouldn’t be a problem with production, just in getting the Type R at launch.
I would guess that Honda UK is “creating” a buzz by saying that there won’t be many cars available at the outset.
I’m sure that any orders placed will be fulfilled in a reasonable period of time.

I’ve had 3 x FK8’s and never had a single gearbox issue.

I love Honda and love my FK8, but I have no idea what lunatics are queuing up to pay £40k plus for a Type R. Especially for one that has reused the powertrain for a 3rd generation in a row.

That’s great to hear. Some people had a 2nd gear grind, but in my case 4th gear would lockout occasionally when changing down from 5th. Honda stated it was a characteristic of the gearbox and refused to fix it therefore I rejected the car for a refund. It was a real shame as I thought it was a great car and Honda lost a loyal customer of over 14 years.

This price of the new one is unbelievably high, I thought it would be around the 40k mark.

UK are getting 300 cars. 150 this year and 150 next year. Anyone with a deposit and who is not getting the first car then you will get your deposit refunded. Utter pish but it’s to do with emissions apparently.

Had a call today, was offered a car, price didnt feel like good value and it didn't feel right flipping it on for a quick profit, so said thanks but no thanks

I'm confident the lucky owner will have been chosen wisely so hope they enjoy many happy miles together

I'm something like 6th in the queue at my dealership and was thinking of pulling out if that's any use

What market are you in? If UK, unless first on the list with the dealer then not sure this is likely. I was actually first on the list at my dealer and didn’t even get the allocation, went to the owner of the dealership

My dealership have told me it’s 1 per dealership…. For the January allocation. They ‘think’ there may be a March allocation also - but not committed.

Fortunately - I have my dealerships allocation BUT I’ll believe January delivery when I see it!

I'm in the UK, doubt I was 1st or anywhere near 1st on a list as I only registered my interest the Sunday before the launch

Went in person to my nearest dealer. I'd never even visited this dealer or any other Honda dealer or have ever even bought a Honda before

Just had a quick chat about the car and my experience of working on Honda powered cars. Left a Post-it with my, name, tel. no. and a short but polite note why I was so interested in buying one as my first Honda

Sales guy called me early Mon. morning said he'd sat down with the other 3 head of sales as they have 4 dealership in their group and he had chosen me as the first person to call for his dealership

Was very surprised to recieve a call as there were only 1 per dealer to sell in the first batch.

Was so impressed that the salesman had given so much thought of who his car was allocated to I had no reservation of letting it go. Was convinced the next person he called would have deserved his place on his list and wouldn't end up in the hands of a flipper/speculator

Which bit of my original post did you not believe?
