How about a "flat pack" Lunar Module then?

A version of that came with the Airfix "Astronauts" figure set.

Not quite - the one man platform in the Airfix Astronauts kit is a North American Aviation proposal for a lunar surface flier

It also included the 2-man Bell F2B flier

The Langley lander was an early design for a minimalist LM to be used by a Gemini based Moon programme

I remember seeing a drawing of one of these with a Bell 47 helicopter type perspex bubble over the cockpit.

SLS only has to be used once I suppose.

I know when they spray on the the foam insulation it's a creamy white colour, but it changes to the distinctive orange in sunlight (UV).

They call it its "suntan". cool

It would appear that most of the SLS & Orion budgets are swallowed up by NASA overheads...

Orion might not be able to take astronauts into space yet, but one of the capsules took a trip to the White House lawn this week...

Part of the Made in America showcase they've been having there.

This capsule has actually flown into space before, atop a Delta 4 Heavy, in Dec 2014.

I knew the answer would be Hollywood based. I was thinking of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" but "Mars Attacks" will do.

I presume this section performs the same function that the Instrument Unit did on the Saturn V -
