It's the soundtrack that impresses most. I'll definitely be getting the DVD whenever it's released.
I thought the same of the soundtrack whilst watching it, the music really made a difference and prompted excitement and also calm at times. Very good indeed smile

Saw it last night as well, absolutely magnificent.

The only slight wrinkle I have was how they cut the landing sequence down so heavily, I would've liked to have seen a little more of the engine light and orientation sequence. But that's a very, very minor quibble with a tremendous effort. Will definitely buy when it's out on disk.
The aforementioned BBC World Service podcast "Thirteen Minutes to the Moon" will be airing, as their final episode, a completely unedited recording of the entire descent. The penultimate episode will be that recording with commentary.

I don't think there's a 3D version; just standard and IMAX formats.

Vue Plymouth now showing for one night only on 15th July. Have asked my daughters if they would like to go but reckon I will end up going alone.
Nope I'll be there
Beginning to get booked up now. Hopefully we will be with like minded people who actually want to watch the film.

Unlike the old lady behind me in Southampton last week, who seemed to spend about 60 of the 90 minutes attempting to open a bag of sweets. Why is it people can't just sit still for 90 minutes and watch a movie? The ten year old next to me managed just fine!

And thats why we wait at least 2 weeks after 1st showing, before we go to the flicks, usually 5/6 pm, tue/wed meerkat movies etc

Normally I wait a year and watch it at home biggrin Very occasionally a film like this one comes out that I simply have to see straight away.

Definitely, yes. The other reason for seeing a movie in the cinema is if the improved sound and vision is worth it, and wow - I saw the IMAX version and am really glad I made the trip to see it!

Just got back from seeing this. A brilliant piece of film making and the 70mm footage adds a new dimension to the Apollo missions. It's the only film I've ever been to where the audience was dead silent throughout and gave a round of applause at the end.

Still haven't managed to see this. Feel like I'm running out of time.

School holidays soon too so that makes it even more difficult to do.

I had a similar experience at an anniversary screening of 2001: A space odyssey.

I think this type of film attracts a “certain” audience who are there because they want to see it, therefore act appropriately to others not to disturb their enjoyment too.

I am in Florida on holiday. The flight in to Tampa took us right over Kennedy with a great view of the Vehicle Assembly Building, the gravel crawler track out to the beach launch pads and the shuttle runway. I was too busy gawping to take a pic.

I had the same on the way back from Orlando last year. A window seat on the left as we flew just south of the launch complexes. I could identify it all, but my phone & camera were up in the locker.

Funnily enough on the way from Gatwick to Florida I also had a window seat and we flew just south of where I live. Gave it a wave of course.

Other than that, window seats are just the worst for long flights.I will go for Isle next time.

Have a good holiday.

Is "Apollo 11: First Steps edition" is the same thing or something else? It appears to be on at my local IMAX at the moment. 50 mins long with "never before seen 70mm footage". As far as I can tell the Apollo 11 film I think people are talking about here is 90 mins long so a different thing?

ETA: Looks like it's a special edition for science centres and museums on big screens focusing on mission footage. Standard film is on at my local cinema on Tuesday, but the First Steps one is for the next month or so at the imax, guess I may as well try both.

The full film is indeed 90 minutes and it seems like the 50 minute version is a cut down version:

Wikipedia said:
In 2019, an edited version of the film, cut down to 45 minutes for exhibition in museum IMAX theaters, was released as Apollo 11: First Steps
