LP123, if you included a reference to a description of the exam you mentioned, it would help. I had never heard of it until today. Do you mean something like this?

Science Equivalency Test

I did my 'O' levels forty years ago, so a bit of explanation what its all about would help.

No so it’s a company who offer exams that are equivalent to your GCSE so if you failed one you can re take it through them

I've encountered exams for Maths, English and Science As the OP says, they're intended for adults looking to fill exam qualification "gaps" and sometimes have provision for remote over the internet exinations.

I find it odd that they do GCSE-level (apparently, equivalent) testing, but then go on to list academic institutions who won't look at GCSE-level qualifications as entry requirements anyway (they will be looking for A/AS levels).
