So what does everyone think of triple qx engine oil? I've been looking at other forum posts but none that are recent. If you use it what do you think?

Any info would be helpful!

I've been using it (in 10w40 semi synth flavour) in my E36 for a number of years now with no issues. Prior to that it was always Castrol. Good value imo (especially with the additional offers/codes ECP do on a regular basis).

I have been using it on my van, car, super scooter and FiL's 4x4.

Chucked it in lawnmowers, generators anything that has a four stroke.

Used to use halfords stuff in their deals but this is cheaper and fully synthetic (usually get it on the buy one get one free deals)

Been absolute fine, no difference, about 40k on the van now, 20 on the car and 12 on the scooter.

Unless you are trackdaying it, get the right weight and regular changes and you will be fine, your motor wont turn in to a clown car and exploded down the road.

It seems ok I firmly believe clean cheap oil is better than dirty expensive oil regular changes at a sensible interval
is cheap insurance against problems and helps MPG say around 5000miles , use the recommended grade and spec = happy days!!!

Same here. It is a vivaro van, getting a oil change at all is considered turning it into a contours vehicle.

Yes I agree entirely with this. Been using Triple QX (5W40 Synthetic) in my Saab 9-5 Aero shed for a couple of years with no problems smile

I tried it in the 530d and there was a significant increase in noise. I guess the more expensive oils probably add in additional noise suppressants, whereas Triple QX probably saves a little on cost by not adding in the less critical additives.

Other than that, I can't really comment.. I had intended to send the oil for analysis when I changed it out but didn't bother in the end.

General consensus is, it meets LL04 spec, but probably only just. So early changes are probably advised.

Although it meets a raft of manufacturer's standards I wouldn't put it in my P&J as I believe you get what you pay for. Other oils probably significantly exceed the same standards.

I thought the noise dampening was mentioned in this article, but after a quick skim it may have been another (interesting read nonetheless) - http://www.millersoils.co.uk/pdf/automotive/Race_E...

I have used it with no ill effects, I have also used Halfords oil with no ill effects. The cars have just been daily smokers though, the race car runs on Ravenol.

Never had any trouble with it. It is actually approved to some quite high standards (not just "meets the spec" but approved).

It is approved to MB 229.3 & 229.51 for example.

Thousands of litres of the stuff get sold and put in cars everyday so if it was bad you'd hear.

Rumour has it, it is made by Shell under contract.

That's what I've always thought. If it was 10% sharp sand & 90% sewerage I think we'd be aware...

What is that based on? Sounds like fear/ lack of confidence ( I can understand that as a motivator, expensive car and would hate to be the one that did something that ruined it) rather than a fact based reasoned decision. Again fine for a individual but when it is spoken to others a reasonable I don;t understand it.

I am not claiming that Triple QX is the best in the business but every time these type of question come up, be it tyres, spare part, oil etc, you get a raft of people saying they use them and it is fine. Then one person says you shouldn't because maybe/probably/it could/don't cry to me if... based on assumptions/own fears/ belief that the branded well advertised expensive stuff just must be better just because.

The noise suppressant one is a example of this.

No real justification but I wouldn't use it simply because there's always an offer on somewhere that gets a trusted brand name for less - ECP had Shell helix on for £11 for 5L recently (iirc £15 - 25% Easter weekend discount).

Your opinion may differ from mine, dear reader. That's why "I believe" and "probably" were in there.

It must be said that generally you get what you pay for. Not a hard and fast rule of course but generally.

Anyway while I'd consider using TripleQX, when the time came to service my £250 shed I saw Shell Helix was four quid more and you got 25% more in the bottle. I trust Shell more.

FYI 'noise suppressant' is a new one on me.
