Hi guys,

After modifiying my RX7's engine I find that two pipes on the current intake are now redundant. I am thinking a 45 degree silicone coupling off the hard pipe and a K&N cone or cylinder filter would be much better in terms of fitment and weight.

However how does one go about measuring the size? Is it just a case of making a mock filter out of some rolled card and seeing if it fits?

Here is the space I am dealing with, I am debating on doing the same with the filter below as well.

Vernier calipers surely would be fine.

I can't see those pictures for some reason, but from your description I suspect you may be referring to part of the crank case ventilation system. In that case there is more to it than simply deleting pipes and you need to be quite clear whether you're running a PCV setup (in which case you would have a filtered air intake) or a dead loss breather system (in which case you need to provide a separator/catch tank).

In all honesty the first thing I would do is to ditch those & get proper filters on, they are just metal wire mesh & in spite of being virtually useless at filtering they also manage to be relatively restrictive as the ratio of wire thickness to "air gap" is too large.
