Watching some videos on YouTube re detailing and Junkman videos, as recommended on PH, say don't machine polish outside as setting yourself up to fail.

Well I have no choice. Is it really going to end in disaster?

Not ideal but in the shade and not on a windy day and you will probably get away with it. Just your own car? :-)

I've done loads of cars outside. No issue. Just apply common sense, clean the panel make sure no dust etc.

Inside is better.
But you can do work outside, even with ceramic coatings.

Are there any professional services that might be labelled as a mobile (outside) detailer ?
Do their businesses all fail ?

Obviously if you had a show car worth £1m that only ever gets moved from venue to venue on a covered trailer without its tyres ever touching the road, then you may consider only ever having it detailed in a totally sterile environment.

Nonsense. I've always polished outside, never encountered an issue. Granted, vision maybe slightly better indoors but I would not deter anyone from doing it outside.

I've never never had any problems using my carport.

If you don't have shelter, consider buying one of those pop up gazebo things.

Just apply common sense - not on windy days, nor when too hot or cold. If you have to work completely outdoors, obviously avoid using electrical tools when it is wetsmile.

Follow the standard advice more religiously re working small areas of panel, no more than, say, 18 inches by 18 inches.

Have a box of tack cloth to hand and pay very close attention to the dust.

The first thing you did wrong was watch that idiots video, you can polish inside or out no problems. The issues come when you do it in direct sunlight or if its windy. A lot of his advice is based on his own ignorance and he refuses to accept anyone showing/telling him different.

Although you should look for the threads of the 'hot chicks' in his Vette.

It's all about limiting things that can cause damage; wind blowing dust under a polishing pads or hot sun drying out the polish before its had a chance to work the abrasives properly.

It depends on the location, on a breezy day the wind blows dust from my house roof making even hand polishing a bad idea but an open space away from buildings would be fine.

Don't professional detailers use a gazebo for this reason?
