This is at the rear of my front arches. Been quoted around £400 from a chap I used recently but I'd have thought that a decent job could be done without having to remove the arches given it's only on the face of the lip and it's not rust that's coming from the inside out.

Any recommended DIY options that would be worth a go as I don't have a spare £400 at the minute!

Could have washed it for the picture smile

I'd carefully brush some smooth finish hammerite on it as a stop gap. Will do a job and look IMO.

I'd always try to rub back to clean metal first and then prime/paint.
You may find a colour matched touch up kit is all you need, won't be that noticeable there.
If your not that bothered then try the hammerite if it's a reasonable match.

Looked into this more and I'll look to wire brush it down, use some bilt hamber deox gel on the bare metal then prime with electrox (zinc rich primer) and top coat.

There's bilt hamber hydrate 80 as well but I've read of that not really being compatible with the electrox primer.

Sounds like a good plan, the gel should remove the rust so no real need for the hydrate i would have thought.

Bilt hamber themselves have said just to use the electrox after the gel.

Only issue might be getting a wire brush into the top of the sill that's under the wing. That and choosing a paint to match Porsche basalt black.

I'm afraid to say that anything you do as a DIY repair is never ......
(1) Going to be prepped as thoroughly as a pro could do it
(2) Going to have professional products applied to it
(3) Going to be finished to professional standards
(4) Going to last even a fraction of the time as a professional job

If the car's a keeper get it done properly.

Bilt Hamber is about as good as products get and the finish on the lip of the 987's is crap anyway.

A proper job is always going to be better and if you've got a spare £400 I'm all ears, I don't.
