Hi, I’m after any recommendations for wheel refurbishment.

I had a pair done by a franchise company in Early Nov.

They are off an Abarth Essessee so are a dark titanium finish.

First attempt looked like they had been done by a five year old, all the scabbing underneath the paint was still present.

Second attempt the scabbing was gone, but they are a complete colour mis-match to the other two wheels that didn’t need doing: they are far too light and shiny (the original is quite matt)

I refused to pay the full bill.

Add insult to injury I’ve just had a puncture and on replacing the tyre a big chunk of paint has just flaked off. I’ve used the tyre place before and not had any issues.

I’m assuming the wheels were not prepped or cured properly (I did notice the place concerned was bedlam, they seemed to have too much work on to turn around in a day: so I doubt they got much in the way of either.)

I’m happy to be without the car for a few days and get it done properly if that’s what it takes for them to be right.

Any one any places in the Liverpool/Chester area they could recommend?

Have you had them sorted?

If so pics as looking around to get some spare alloys sorted as well.

No, not sorted yet. However, have been recommended a company called Birkenhead Powder Coating where a few people have had really good results. I’m going to try them.

I have very plain 5 spoke wheels in just the normal finish but tried two places and neither would do just two due to them possibly coming out slightly different.

Please do let us know how you get on - I used the Ellesmere Port branch of a franchise that many people rave about and the first attempt didn't look great and got worse quickly. To be fair they did them again without any quibble but they started to go again quicker than I hoped - originals had been untouched for 10 years and I only got them done due to bubbling around the valve holes.

That’s why I won’t use a franchise one again, too many poor outcomes.

As per my original post they seemed to have too much work booked in for the day, borne out by the fact that although officially closing at 1800 I had to sit round until 2000 to collect my car!

High turnover, not enough attention to detail as they look worse than they did only a few months jobless

Birkenhead powder coatings. Good lads £40 a corner on 20’s 4,000 colours.

They do bits for my classic yanks. Very trustworthy.
