After building the car in a very narrow single garage, then moving to a double and now having a two and a half car garage, there is never enough room !

Very rough concrete floor painted to keep the dust down and foam tiles to lay, sit or kneel on, make life immeasurably better.

I've been in this house 29 years. No garage when I bought it so had to do a few jobs on the chucky drive way at the side. Welding on an E21 323i and an RS2000 while lying in the snow. Removed the 5 cylinder engine from a Passat and loaded it into the back of my Mk1 Fiesta to take it to my parents garage to do the work on it. All the usual stuff.
Eventually extended the house with a garage. 7.2 x 4m. Big enough to house the pedal bike, workbench, motorbike, wee trailer and still fit a large estate car when its freezing outside.
It's got a radiator, a sink and a good stereo.... and a lot of my stuff.
As a funny aside, I have had a few Land Rovers so I made sure that the door was built with 2.1m height clearance which was enough for a Discovery with the sunroof open ...... Wish I had thought about the width! It's also 2.1m and with the way cars keep increasing in size, it needs a bit of care to get a large saloon in.

eek I'd say!

Sorry mate, but I couldn't work in that level of untidyness.
It’s pretty damned tidy now , too much stuff, too little space.

That's good to know. Can you check the little end bush to pin clearance? The only thing I found on some was that it was very very slightly too big and I don't know if it will mean anything at all when they are fitted and oiled. Basically on a dry build I could push the pin in quite easily, but could also waggle it just a little, certainly not much and I know once oiled it won't do that. Just wondered what you thought or had experienced.

The set in the picture were very marginally loose, but not worryingly so, no waggle factor to speak of. The steel rods I use are made for me and are spot on, as good a fit as Farndon or Arrow, to get the pin in place requires patience to make the small end absolutely square with the pin and a gentle turn on the pin as it is fitted.

I don't know you. I've never met you. I'm sure that you're a lovely chap. But I just want you to know, that after posting pictures like the one above, I hate you.
Well if it makes you feel any better, the saying that goes 'the more space you have , the more sh*t you find to put in it' is very true.

I fear I may have jinxed myself by creating this thread as having done so, my planned purchase of my current house complete with 30m x 10m garage has been dealt a hammer blow and so now we're relocating to the country... many plus points to this but one huge downside is there is no garage space, granted have some land so now exploring the options from timber built sheds to steel kit garages to a bespoke build. Temporarily, all work will stop and tools / cars etc will need to be put somewhere. Hopefully not eBay!

Just re-read my comment and realised how ttish it sounds "...have some land now..." so I hasten to add, several hundreds acres complete with deer, peasants and a well stocked fishing lake it isn't... what it is, is a small area of waste ground to the side of the house that is however a) ours b) flat and c) accessible thus it does lend itself fairly well for a build, though my budget is about bugger all so sadly whilst some of the workspaces posted here are superb, I fear I'll have to reel my neck back in a bit and aim a bit lower for the time being. Had debated one of those steel garage kits but the general advice seems to be "don't" and instead timber may be an option but security is a factor... anyways, have a thread in Homes & DIY on the subject so will stop contaminating this thread and away and waste several hours reading that website before becoming depressed... or financially ruined. Or both.

Cheers

Just out of curiosity, how big is your shed? About 1500 sq/ft?

Edited by TVR Moneypit on Tuesday 13th February 14:48
The area that you see in the picture is probably about 1500-1800sq/ft but the building is closer to 12000sq/ft. A friend of mine likes to fly his drone on the property and took this picture.

Forgive me for asking, but is a shed that sort of size commonplace and normal in your neck of the woods?

Hang on a minute, what the bloody hell do you with the other 10'000 sq/ft? eek
I had to go about 50 miles out of town to be able to afford a building like that. I was actually looking at another building that turned out to be not suitable and was about to walk away when the real estate agent let me know about a metal building about 5 miles further out which had a paint booth.

The PO passed away and the family wanted rid of it. Thieves stole all the copper wiring from it which allowed me to get for for a pretty low price. First month was spent running electrical wire back through the building for getting it inspected before moving in.

I would not say that this building is normal, but I had already learned how easy it was to out grow your space so I bought the biggest I could get,

"Barnominiums" are becoming increasingly popular with car guys around here. There are properties in the country consisting of a large metal building with living quarters. Mine is zoned as commercial so I can't live there, but I can use it to run a business if I decided to change careers.

Right now, the whole building is full of cars, some are parts cars, some are projects. If I live to 250, I would not have enough time to finish all these projects. That's when you realize that the sh*t you own actually owns you.
