Car is a Clio 182, this only seems to happen after the car has been driven for a bit. Quite a loud sound really and not something I've encountered before. Seems more obvious in reverse but it does it going forwards too.

While driving at about 20mph-

Reversing on the drive-

Any ideas?

My guess is CV joint has disintegrated.

I would agree with the above, the same happened on my corsa, the cv joint seal had gone and no longer prevented ingress of dirt and over time began to disintegrate

Friend had a similar sound and it turned out to be worn disks and the metal on the pads rattling against the disc.

Car just had discs and pads all round recently. I jacked the car up earlier and couldn't see anything obvious but I'll get it into the garage and see what they say.

Cheers.

Just out of interest, I bought a Ford Escort from Fords of Winsford a few years ago, they put new front disc and pads in before I took it home.
It made some strange click clunking sounds.

I took it to be serviced and my local garage bod found they had put the wrong pads into the calipers, the noise was them moving forwards and backwards against the disc.

Jacked the car up and both sides made this identical sound when rotating the wheel backwards and forwards-

Had a wheel bearing replaced recently so it was my first thought to check in case something was untoward. Thought this sound was perhaps the issue until the I checked the driver's side and it made the same sound and felt the same to rotate. Is that normal though?

Folk on the Clio forum reckon there could be an issue with the diff/gearbox.

I'm skint as it is and I've never found it struggling on the road as standard.
