My Golf had a run in with a deer at ~40mph. Thankfully the animal won't have suffered as it's head hit the bonnet square-on, the car on the other hand...

I've had a quote for the cracked trim pieces (lower grill £37 and bonnet trim piece £48 from VW).

My concern is how serious the bonnet damage is. I've sent photos to a couple of paintless dent removal (PDR) guys - both said it's going to need bodyshop work because the metal looks warped over the rigid structure of the bonnet. That's probably true to an extent although I do think the photos make it look more extreme than it is in person. Another cause for concern is that there's actually no access to the underside of the dent, as its hidden behind the bonnet framework. Does this make a PDR very implausible?

If anyone has expertise in this field, or has had similar damage repaired before then any advice would be appreciated.

(Hampshire area, if there are any recommendations).

Based on what you've said about the bonnet & the pic I agree with the PDR techs you've spoken to.

Would a straight bonnet from a scrappy be the cheapest solution?

Daughter hit a deer, similar damage but Ford cheapo Ka. Picked up a brand new pattern part bonnet and sent it off to a painter associated with my local indie. Fitted it myself, sorted out some plastic issues too - a headlamp mounting, under bonnet trim etc.

Total bill, 120 quid and some strong glue, plus in your case your plastic bits are beyond glue which given it is German might mean you need to go through the hatchback, remove the seats and dash to fit them wink. Got the pattern part in Southampton.

Seriously, have a go yourself, it isn’t difficult.
