Like many, I want a lift for my garage, but as space is a premium, a traditional scissor lift isn't going to work. I've seen QuickJack products, which look to be a good halfway house, in that they get the whole car off the ground to permit good enough access underneath, without the bulk of a larger lift.

Are there any PH'ers here who have a set who can give practical feedback, before I order a setup?

Thanks for your honest views smile

I managed to get an ex-demo set about 18 months ago on eBay and I've used it to lift my 911 a couple of times now so I could get all 4 wheels off for some work and cleaning.

It took a few attempts to get the rubber blocks in the right place and configuration as my driveway is neither particularly smooth or level but once I had it sorted the car goes up quickly and locks into place at two heights.

Someone I know who has their own workshop said he wouldn't get under the car when up on these without additional support (axle stands) but to me the car feels rock solid once locked although I haven't needed to work underneath it and would probably stick a couple of stands under for peace of mind...

The best bit for me is that I can't get the car in the garage much less work on it in there so these allow me to get the car up in the air on the driveway but take relatively little room up when stored - the ramps lean up against the wall just inside the door and the pump goes on a shelf with the hoses in a plastic storage box.

In certain parts of the country I've seen cars up on bricks that are higher than that. biggrin

Thanks for the feedback chaps, I think for my tiny single garage, these represent the best solution, with the added advantge of being able to be taken outside any used on other cars too. I'll head to the NEC Classic Car show this weekend and hope to pick up a bargain on a set, otherwise, CostCo looks the best option.

I bought the quickjack over 3 years ago from lift master. It was one of the first sold in the UK.
I was in the same situation as yourself - a single garage and not much space. I had looked at scissor lifts but I didn't have much head room and wouldn't get a car up to full height.
What swayed me towards the quickjack is the fact they're portable too.

I have no regrets about buying it and it suits me needs perfectly. I stored it underneath the car on the floor when not in use. I had a MINI which was lowered on coilovers and was able to drive it over the lift when not in use.

I also use it on the driveway when working on the family car (which won't fit in the garage) and it's great. Our family car is a Toyota Verso 7 seater and the lift raises it no problem. When locked off the lift feels secure and it gives you enough room to carry out most jobs under the car. It allows me to do anything that I've ever needed.

I used to used a couple of jacks, ramps and axle stands for working on the car and the quickjack is a far better job. If I'm working on the car on the driveway I can have it up in the air in literally about 5 mins. I have the 3500 12v model and I keep a small 12v battery for using it. The battery is from my golf trolley. You can of course use the car battery but the leads with the lift aren't very long and you would have to set the pump bedside the battery or use a set of jump leads. This problem might have been addressed since I bought mine.

Overall I'd definitely recommend it and it's genuinely portable. It feels secure and is well made. It doesn't take up much room and is a great option if space is tight.

That's really great feedback, thanks a lot! I looked at some scissor lifts at the NEC show last weekend and having measured them up, it's clear they're simply too big for my garage. Time to hunt down some QuickJacks!

Another happy QuickJack owner here. I've had mine a little over a year now and they've had lots of use. In fact, I just got through doing three sets of winter tire swap overs this weekend. I mainly bought them to work on my 996, but use them on all our family vehicles now. Lift height is enough on the 996 that I can comfortable navigate under the car with a creeper when in the highest position. If I needed to drop a transmission or motor, I think I could easily get enough height with some additional rubber blocks or similar. Makes the job so much more stable and safe. I never felt comfortable tilting back and forth to get car up on jack stands.

QuickJack BL-5000SLX owner here

Gave me enough room to get the engine and box out without too much drama on the M3.

Had my Quickjack for a couple of years now, single garage, low roof so the best compromise I could find.
Have the power pack sat on a shelf, hard wired to a car battery with a battery breaker switch. Also wired in a charging lead I can connect to my CTEK.
Hydraulic hoses are long enough to run from power pack to the ramps which are low enough to sit under centre of car when not in use.
Very happy with it.

Plus vat?
Was £799 plus vat a few weeks back, so good saving if it includes the tax

Just ordered one online from Costco, after joining their £15 online membership, for £899. The QuickJack website has it for £1,113. Worth it to be able to lift the Cerb or the M3 quickly and without worrying about being crushed!

Including VAT, I have been thinking about getting a set for a while and not seen them below £950.

I have just assembled the quickjacks. On one of the jacks there is some left to right movement when raised, is this normal without any weight on it?

Think I might wait and see if they reduce the price again and get a set.

With them in place I guess you can move around and work without any issues and they then lock in place?

I think they look really dangerous.

What stops a sideways force pushing them both over.
