I'll pop it to a garage tomorrow.
Good move. It might be as simple as a coolant leak now, but if that leads to overheating the engine then the repairs could get a lot more expensive.

What makes you say that?

So far your contribution has been a bit weak and advice flawed.
Everything so far...

Go to Garage because you have no clue....I think that is good for your and your engines own protection

And that's your contribution?

Thanks

I came on to ask for help. I openly admitted that know very little about cars.

I asked what the issue might be and some posters kindly offered their advice and diagnosis.

Your contribution had pretty much been take it to a garage and read the manual.

You might think that makes you look clever, or witty.

I think it makes you look like a bit of a sad case.

I've built up a mental picture of you, sat in your mum and uncle Keith's spare room, tapping away on uncle Keith's desktop wearing a black t-shirt with a printed wolf on the front and baggy grey joggers with a nice pair of brown suede slippers.

When not being an arse online you spend hours looking at photos in cars and car conversions magazines ruefully shaking your piggy bank and wondering how long it will take you to save up for that Pug.
Cheer up, your universal credit comes in four days and youbcan buy some more fat pants and magazines.

Yes it is.......... I think taking it to a garage ASAP is best for your car....let be fair here, if someone cannot even find a radiator on a car or the coolants filler cap a garage is the place to go to before it goes bang/fiz/pop.

If you'd actually read the posts you would see that the radiator
A) wasn't where you said it was
B) Doesnr have a separate filler cap

You'd also see the helpful advice within the thread.

Run along now, your Digimon cartoon is on in 5 mins.

Does the fan come on when the engine is hot? If it doesn’t you’re overheating and losing water via the expansion tank outlet.

Where is the radiator?
At the front of the car.

You need to read all the other posts, rather than wasting time copying and pasting.

The full facts are available. It seems like the lack of a separate rad cap confused a few.

But once again, thanks for your valuable input.
You're a star. No doubt a successful go getting dynamo of a man. Well done on knowing so much more than me. I'm totally in awe if you and wish I was you..

If you undo the screws and remove that plastic cover at the front of the engine bay, the radiator filler cap might be under there?

It might, of course, also not have a radiator filler cap, but I don't think I've ever heard of that before. (I am not an expert or an experienced mechanic, of course.)
Never heard of it?
Not many cars these days have a radiator cap just the expansion tank to fill from

New cars full of electronic things to go wrong are not my vehicle of choice wink so I have not been absorbing much information about them! smile

I am aware that some cars nowadays don't have a dipstick and rely on a digital display on the dash, though - seems bizarre to remove a direct way for the owner to check on their own, but there seem to be increasingly common incidences of the 'mother knows best' approach removing our ability to do things ourselves!

Given that the heat came back once water had been added, it's probably no longer an issue.

Can't get a garage to look at it until Thursday. I don't need the car until then so that's not so bad.

If anyone is interested it was a hole in the radiator.

There is no separate radiator filling cap, it's all done via the coolant reservoir.

The radiator can only be accessed from underneath and by removing the front bumper.

It's going to cost 250, which sounds about right from the prices I've seen online and how long it'll take to do it.

Thanks to everyone that helped out.

If it's only being pushed out when under pressure and when hot, it may be evaporating quickly and hard to spot the evidence.

There's been no water on the drive, so it looks as though the pressure build up when the engine is running is doing the business.

The main radiator has a little filter type thing in front of it with a tiny shelf, or lip type thing and when the engine was running you could see the water dripping onto this little shelf.

I've parked it on a hill now and you can see evidence of the leak when it's stationary and on an angle.
