Hi, I have a lovely Toyota Avensis 2001 but there are first signs of minor wheel bearing rumble. I have discovered I can buy on eBay a "Wheel Bearing Greaser" tool which looks a good tool to use - grease gun operated. It will save removal of the pressed-in front bearings, not sure about the rear. Before starting with removal of the high-torque axle retention nuts can anyone support use of this tool? Also I assess my aperture at 46mm whereas the tools advertised only show 44mm. Can anyone confirm which is right please? Thank you in advance for your help. Geoff.

If the bearing has started to rumble the wear is already there so greasing in now won't fix it.

I’d say if it’s rumbling it’s too late for grease to make much difference or for very long.

Replace the bearing would be my advice.

Rumbling is caused by physical damage to the rolling elements (balls/rollers) or the races, it only requires a tiny little chip in the surface to make a surprising amount of noise. Grease will not magically fix this.

That's a waste of time and money. Grease won't fix a worn bearing. The bearing would be installed with grease and designed not to need additional greasing during its life. If the bearing is sealed, the grease wouldn't even reach it.
