The Arcan one from Costco is very good. I’ve used mine for years.

Always seem to get recommended on here.

Slightly off topic, but kind of inline with using a jack.
Which stands are normally recommended? Especially for something like a large SUV.

Archan jack is top notch, had mine a wee while now.. got this one recently too - had a big home job on and the Arcan was out of stock, decent jack

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001SFXDM8/ref...

For an SUV or a 4x4 you want a pair of 3/4 tonne stands ideally as they lift higher and have a wider base like these I have

https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637205050/axle-s...

Got these 2 tonne ones from SGS also and really like them for normal car work the locking pin is really reassuring

Seconding the SGS stuff.

My Lada is currently one 4 SGS 6 tonne jacks meant for 4x4 work (As I need the height). Very well put together. The jack as well is quite robust and feels like a step under an entry level professional garage jack. The place I get my tyres done also use the SGS jacks too.

Arcan.

I bought an SGS one - admittedly not a super expensive one - and it was rubbish.
It broke (design flaw with a very flimsy metal clip) and after initially fobbing me off, they said I'd have to send the whole thing back to them (£15) and maybe they'd fix it. Or maybe I'd have to pay.

SGS is weird as they sell them as the total supported weight so 2x 2tonne stands they list as 4tonne stands, every one else does it the other way

Reviews on their jacks are very chalk and cheese, either people slate them badly or rate high.. I was going to get one when I got my Sealey & couldn't get 2nd Arcan but they didn't have the one in stock that I wanted

I like the stands I have of theirs tho, would like the bigger set but already have the sealeys and had em about 18 years so they doing ok so far laugh

Recently got a Sealy low entry rocket, seems decent enough. I've got one of their engine cranes I've used for years to lift all sorts of stuff, it's never let me down.

my goto tools for changing wheels are a corded Parkside rattle gun from Lidl,

and a 2.5 tonne trolly jack from SGS. Can't fault either.

I also had a bad experience with an SGS one, which failed when jacking a car up.

Replaced it with a Sealey one, which is far more reassuringly robust by comparison.

I've got that same SGS 2.5 tonne jack, it's st, it's been back twice for repairs and it still sinks. And the release mechanism broke twice. And they sent the wrong handle back last time so it jams on the release.

My sealey jack did not last very long.
Replaced with a Costco arcan jack which is still going strong.

I use the halfords 3 tonne jack on a daily basis and it's spot on. Very sturdy. I can get you the 2 tonne one for alot cheaper than retail. If you're interested give me a shout 👍

I noticed that, each jack will do 3 tonnes. The Lada weighs 950kg so I'm well under it. But like I said I just needed the height, and all the other manufacturers charged a daft amount for tall/4x4 jack stands.

I've some Big Red Arm/Big Red Hammer/Big Red something stands I bought 10 years ago which have been really good. Must've cost £20 but they've been great for every car I've had to work on.

"It's taken a while, but finally ordered a SEALEY 2001LEBL from workshopping.co.uk at £102.91 delivered."

Very happy with it.

The height is nice for sure, we had a series 3 land rover stripped down to the chassis frame on a set of 4 of the sealey 3 tonne ones at max height, was easy to get around and under for cleaning back the oid waxoil & paint to get to the metal to weld. when it went back onto the floor it looked weirdly low

Think i paid something stupid like £20/30 for 4 of them as they'd been returned to machine mart with no box, gave my dad one pair and I had the others, my dad has a 20 year old 3 tonne sealey jack that is still going strong as well
