Another Sealey 2001LE user here. Mines the orange one with matching 2 tonne (I think) stands. Had a halfrauds 4x4 jack before but the Sealey is a much better jack.

I've heard the low entry halfrauds ones are ok and alot of people agree the arcan is also good.

The Arcan one from Costco is very good. I’ve used mine for years.

Always seem to get recommended on here.
This is what I have, the 1.8ton aluminium version.

Must be 5 years old now, if only light occational DIY use, it does get dragged around on the drive and do all sorts of odd lifting job like moving a skip etc. Two-speed lift, so fast take up, high total lift height on my model, low entry height. As good as any I have used.

If you don't need to lift it ever I would get the steel one, but the ability to lift it on my own makes the ali jack worthwhile.

The steel ones aren't that heavy... my sealey 2500LE is 35KG, can lift it no bother

Oh I mean, you you can lift it, and likely get it into and out of a car, and some of the aluminum ones can be seriously heavy too.

However my Ali Arcan (model CEALJ2T) spec sheet says it is 21.5 kg, which feels about right, 13kg less making yours just over 1.6x heavier!

I am sure there are plenty of other good jacks around, else I actually bought mine online (via ebay I think) delivered.

Not sure what model my Arcan is, its about the same weight as my Sealey.. I've got a little 2 tonne sealey thats my preference to lift into a car as can one hand that off the floor and into the car with a handle thats on the top of it if I need to take one somewhere, it don't lift super high tho it is low entry so handy for small jobs

Understandable opinion. Have you looked into any of the Halfords offerings?

I've got that same SGS 2.5 tonne jack, it's st, it's been back twice for repairs and it still sinks. And the release mechanism broke twice. And they sent the wrong handle back last time so it jams on the release.
I have the same one as well and its been great, very happy with it

Never had a problem with sgs jacks, I buy 1 a year, cheaper and easier than getting 1 tested and checked for insurance.

Won't touch sealey jacks again, had a problem with 1 from day 1 and never ever got it sorted. Haven't bought anything from sealey since, but that is irrelevant to the jacks. Before that it was always sealey for a jack, 1 every year.

I don't think many jacks are now built anywhere other than china and just re branded, but the sgs ones appear to be at the better end of cheap imports as far as I am concerned.

Just shows I think, it is down to personal experiences.

I accept anything can be faulty, or cause an issue, it is how it is dealt with that matters.

I've got the 3T version of the £120 one you linked in the original post OP and its one of those bits of kit I wish I'd bought sooner. The worst thing about it was carrying it across a large car park when I bought it as it weighs as much as the car itself!

Badly, in my case, so I refuse to touch them again.

Arcan.

I bought an SGS one - admittedly not a super expensive one - and it was rubbish.
It broke (design flaw with a very flimsy metal clip) and after initially fobbing me off, they said I'd have to send the whole thing back to them (£15) and maybe they'd fix it. Or maybe I'd have to pay.
I also had a bad experience with an SGS one, which failed when jacking a car up.

Replaced it with a Sealey one, which is far more reassuringly robust by comparison.
Also have an SGS jack, looks the business, but is utterly useless. Took it back to them to test, picked it up a week later, and they swore there was nothing wrong with it. But you have to put so much force into the bar to make it move, it feels like it will snap. So has only been used once or twice, now just gathering dust.

Is your floor unlevel?
As that's the only time if had to put forces into a jack handle if something was stopping it roll on the ground

I have an SGS one and it has no lifting pressure at all, obviously something broke while it was sat in the garage. Been meaning to get it fixed but from the sound of the posts here I might as well bin it frown

The old ones were 3000kg and weighed an absolute ton. Literally. My old man gave himself a hernia trying to lift it in his van . Superb jacks though.

Arcan Jack's are quality in my experience so good choice. Was tempted by one but sealey took preference in the end. I do like the ali arcans as they are very light for a quality floor jack. I reasoned I very rarely transport my large floor jack so dont mind the extra weight. Read the reveiws of the sealey and alot mentioned its heavy. Wimps I thought. Now I'm no stick figure by any stretch of the imagination and even for me it's a sodding great lump.

I've got the Costco one too. It sat outside supporting the Jag for about three weeks without dropping down the 2 or 3 mm to the axle stands.

I'm not a , it was out of sight. laugh

Point being it's a good, solid piece of kit.
