The Arcan one from Costco is very good. I’ve used mine for years.
Always seem to get recommended on here.
This is what I have, the 1.8ton aluminium version.Always seem to get recommended on here.
Must be 5 years old now, if only light occational DIY use, it does get dragged around on the drive and do all sorts of odd lifting job like moving a skip etc. Two-speed lift, so fast take up, high total lift height on my model, low entry height. As good as any I have used.
If you don't need to lift it ever I would get the steel one, but the ability to lift it on my own makes the ali jack worthwhile.

The steel ones aren't that heavy... my sealey 2500LE is 35KG, can lift it no bother Must be 5 years old now, if only light occational DIY use, it does get dragged around on the drive and do all sorts of odd lifting job like moving a skip etc. Two-speed lift, so fast take up, high total lift height on my model, low entry height. Oh I mean, you you can lift it, and likely get it into and out of a car, and some of the aluminum ones can be seriously heavy too. However my Ali Arcan (model CEALJ2T) spec sheet says it is 21.5 kg, which feels about right, 13kg less making yours just over 1.6x heavier!

You can get the Arcan online, 5 days to deliver but not too bad.. https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Automotive/Garage/T...PhillipM said:
I've got that same SGS 2.5 tonne jack, it's st, it's been back twice for repairs and it still sinks. And the release mechanism broke twice. And they sent the wrong handle back last time so it jams on the release.
I have the same one as well and its been great, very happy with it Never had a problem with sgs jacks, I buy 1 a year, cheaper and easier than getting 1 tested and checked for insurance.
Won't touch sealey jacks again, had a problem with 1 from day 1 and never ever got it sorted. Haven't bought anything from sealey since, but that is irrelevant to the jacks. Before that it was always sealey for a jack, 1 every year.
I don't think many jacks are now built anywhere other than china and just re branded, but the sgs ones appear to be at the better end of cheap imports as far as I am concerned.
Just shows I think, it is down to personal experiences.
I accept anything can be faulty, or cause an issue, it is how it is dealt with that matters.

Arcan.
I bought an SGS one - admittedly not a super expensive one - and it was rubbish.
It broke (design flaw with a very flimsy metal clip) and after initially fobbing me off, they said I'd have to send the whole thing back to them (£15) and maybe they'd fix it. Or maybe I'd have to pay.

Replaced it with a Sealey one, which is far more reassuringly robust by comparison.

Also have an SGS jack, looks the business, but is utterly useless. Took it back to them to test, picked it up a week later, and they swore there was nothing wrong with it. But you have to put so much force into the bar to make it move, it feels like it will snap. So has only been used once or twice, now just gathering dust.
Is your floor unlevel?
As that's the only time if had to put forces into a jack handle if something was stopping it roll on the ground

Arcan Jack's are quality in my experience so good choice. Was tempted by one but sealey took preference in the end. I do like the ali arcans as they are very light for a quality floor jack. I reasoned I very rarely transport my large floor jack so dont mind the extra weight. Read the reveiws of the sealey and alot mentioned its heavy. Wimps I thought. Now I'm no stick figure by any stretch of the imagination and even for me it's a sodding great lump.
