After a bit of help if possible, I'm not having much luck.

The stuff in the picture that I've circled and arrowed, what do you call it? It goes round some of the power steering lines in my old Vauxhall.

I've tried searching for aluminium flexi pipe, and aluminium heat shroud, but I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. O/D is 32mm.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Ask your mechanic. She seems on the ball.

Also, you can't replace an engine with a small child with a ratchet spanner hope no one will notice. You'll see when you get her on a dyno.

Environmentally friendly though, ULEZ compliant given no green house gases are emitted.

CO2 will still be emitted via respiration .. probably a bit less than with an engine though smile

She certainly is on the ball, this one has got her stumped too though. Bad news about the dyno, I had high hopes for this 'engine'.

Hi geeks, no that wasn't me, unfortunately. It's on my list of things to do with my car, but I've not made it yet. Is it the car you recognise or was there someone called Cocknose there?

Thanks for that, can't seem to find any 32mm but always good to have more search options.

Thank you too. That stuff is quite a large minimum order, but exactly the right stuff.

She emits greenhouse gas alright, little grosser.

That's got me pretty much there, not quite the right size but what's 6mm between friends. Thank you

Probably, but then I built this engine so it might not run!

Not exactly the same size, slightly larger at 36mm O/D but most likely the OEM of that sort of hose:
https://www.gates.com/gb/en/search.p.7743-000000-0...
Just stick 7743-0135 in google/ebay and take your pick, about £8/metre.
They also do 25mm with O/D of 26mm but nothing in between that I can see.

Usually used for warm air intake from the exhaust manifold on cold starts that always used to get frayed, dented or squashed and was used as general heat protection hose in places.

Great project by the way!

Does it have to be that? Silicone fire sleeve is the modern equivalent.

Might be a daft question but what do you want it for?

I ask because what you are pointing out is just a part of the full item (power steering hose) which needs protection from heat. It is the inner hose/pipe sometimes covered with foam and then has a corrugated aluminium outer swaged in place.

If you have a damaged one it can be repaired with standard aluminium foil tape.

If it is for something else there may be something better.

Ah! Mildly interesting story while there (RoR 2017) I dropped a 10mm socket into my engine bay, while struggling to retrieve it the folks we were garage sharing with quickly dropped in the team mascot (a very similar looking little girl) into my engine bay to retrieve it for me, after I had finished changing my radiator I went to say thanks and offer them a beer and her some sweets as a thank you, in conversation they mentioned how they do that all the time and showed me some pictures of her working on the car etc she was very proud of herself, she looks very similar she even had the same red overalls and high vis! I have a snap of her wheeling some wheels back into the garage after one of their pitstops and she is barely as big as the wheels but looks so pleased with herself!

Purchased!

Thanks mate, it's starting to drag now but I'm really looking forward to getting it out on the road, whenever that may be.

It doesn't have to be, I was just looking for a like for like replacement if possible. I saw some of the silicone sleeving on carbuilder, it looks good.

I just want to replace what's there really. I tried to get a part number from the exploded diagrams, but as you say it looks like it's all one assembly.

That piece is quite intact, but the rest of it is basically fked. I did think about repairing it with ali tape but thought I'd try and get a replacement. For £10 it makes sense to replace it rather than repair it.

Ah, that wasn't my little one - unless she was moonlighting for another team!

She loves helping out in the garage, I'm hoping she grows up with fond memories and mechanical aptitude. She's pretty good with tool recognition now, and if I ask her to grab the long nose pliers or something, she generally comes back with the right thing. Her favourite tool is the torque wrench (she likes the clicks) and least favourite is the impact wrench (too noisy). I'm blessed with her, she's cracking and really helpful. She loves her overalls, I have an old red set from work which I wear if I'm doing particularly mucky stuff, and she asked for a pair of her own.

Thanks for your interest, Cocknose!
It's a Triumph Vitesse, the last (AFAIK) racing in the UK. The famous Candy Box of Kas Kastner is still racing in the US and maybe another, and there were Vitesses racing in New Zealand until recently.
But for anyone who wnats to go racing, it's not where to start! Brick aerodynamics and all the disadvantages of the swing axle to overcome, plus some dire design faults that were fine on the road but not on track.

What is the car your young technician is fettling?

Top Dadding! From the sounds of it she'll be moonlighting in no time hehe

Oh wow, that sounds really cool. I like a classic tin top racer. Do you have a build thread or any pictures?

Mine is a little (a lot) chavvier than that - Cavalier GSI. It does at least have independent rear suspension, but other than that I've had to change everything else to make it suitable for track work.
