You'd have a much better time if you used a socket instead of a chisel. hehe

Another vote for a Pela pump, messy bit is the filter for which a couple of rags, a whole kitchen role and a couple of plastic bags are essential

I just remembered about doing an oil change on my CItroen Relay campervan, then going a few miles for an errand. There was an oil smell.
When I got home and looked under the bonnet there was oil everywhere. I'd forgotten to fit the oil cap.
Luckily the van had an undertray and I was able to find the cap which had fallen from wherever I'd balanced it while doing the job.

I have a pela as well
The last timei did a car, the bloody filter was on but the rubber washer was pinched,
So as i poured the clean oil in it cameout the other side just as fast,

I managed to dam it and clean it up

As luck would have it the council resurfaced it a month later so i dodged a bullet

Still continue to do it though this time loads of cardboard down

My Triumph Vitesse, like GT6s and TR6s has a drain plug that directs the flow of hot oil straight onto the chassis rail and thence fore and aft, with spatters everywhere. I've found that a piece of cardboard, cereal packet or corrugated, it doesn't matter, will catch and direct the flow downwards, abolishing all that mess. The card is, of course, disposable.
It's so simple, just hooks over the chassis rail:

Managed to do an oil & filter change on my civic without making a mess this afternoon. First time spill free in a while I must admit.

I have 6 of the big interlocking gym mats, bright orange to match my jack and stands, so they fit nice under the car, protect the drive and it's nice for me to lie on.

I also use a wide drain pan and take my time undoing the filter so the excess drains into the pan while the filter is still screwed on. Easy as!

I even left the pan under when spraying the underside down with brake clean.
