A little stumped with the current issue I am having with the rear wiper. Over the last few months now the first use of the rear wiper causes it to work but jam. It only ever jams on the first go and always in the same place. Flicking the stalk causes it to reset and then from there it works as normal.

It's an estate with a hatch so I opened the glass and the wiper moves super easy, I tried to start the motor with the hatch open but it didn't work.

I am guessing it could be an electrical fault as it is a constant and always stops in the first place. If it was more mechanical I could see if failing at various times or sticking in other locations?

Any ideas?

What car is this on? I had a similar issue on Audi A4 avant caused by the washer fluid for the rear wiper leaking into the motor/gear box assembly for the rear wiper & it started to seize. The fix was a new rear wiper motor assembly- a fairly simple & inexpensive diy job.

E61, the washer fluid comes from the boot hinge (also doesn't work) so the motor itself is dry. I think I will start with the motor and try take it apart and apply more grease to it to see if that helps.

I have a similar issue with my g31, it may be the same thing?
The wiper is driven by a pin that engages with the motor in the boot lid when you close the glass. On mine when the glass is open the wiper will drop to a point where the pin is too low to engage in the hole when it shuts. You can check this by pushing the wiper up when you have shut the glass, you’ll hear the pin click into place.
The answer is to shim the stop for the wiper so that it lines up properly.
