This is to help anyone looking to alter flat, straight end wiper arms; maybe referred to as bayonet arms but some pictures look different to my wiper arms as they have little dips at the ends of the arms.

The wiper arms I have use a plastic adapter piece that's getting increasingly difficult to find and don't always fit correctly. For instance, one fit so well it was a struggle to take off (received cuts for my trouble) and the other required tape which started to fail as I was driving in the rain on the M1.

With the above in mind I was thinking of changing them for good so I could use the universal Bosch wipers or have the choice for other wiper arms (Bosch's and other wipers didn't contain the plastic adapter I mentioned above).

About 10 years ago they used to sell Champion wiper blades with a screw on adapter; recently I couldn't find these anywhere and many motor factors couldn't help. I toyed with looking for later model cars that would fit on my car and someone on a different forum said they'd tried that for a few hours in a breaker's yard and failed. I even spoke to my mechanic about welding on U type ends!

So to avoid other people wasting their time searching for the specific plastic adapters and alternative ideas, there are tonnes of little adapter kits on eBay/amazon that read something like 'Universal Front Windshield Wiper Blade Arm Adapter Kit 3392390298'.

I hope the experience and information can save someone the time/trouble I've had. Also hope it helps people to keep their old cars on the road driving

I resorted to a bit of "Cut and Shut"

Found a set of suitable sized "Hook" ended arms in the local scrap yard, cut the original at a good point, and welded on the hooked ends.

I’ll most probably end up doing the same should these adapters fail/rust.

Cheers
