I'm looking to save time in selling bikes and have noticed several dealers are using a turntable (only need one clear wall)

I'm thinking castors on a frame with alloy sheet over the top, I did ponder about using a stub axle and wheel bearing to centre it

Has anyone got any bright ideas or of re-purposing something similar ?

Has to take a 250kg bike approx 7' diameter

What kind of floor have you got to run it on?

If it's relatively smooth then I'd say you're on the money. 25x2mm wall box into a frame, add a sprinkling of castors (maybe 6 or 8 all the way round for stability), then cover the top with chequer plate.

It's a conc floor which I could use self levelling or run the castors on a circular track, negating the need of a centre bearing

I'm sure there must be an easier option than starting from scratch

Kids playground roundabout? Wind turbine head on its side? Frame on two sheets of ptfe rather than a bearing or casters? Flatbed trolley or stillage base of some sort?

I assume it's to be un powered and would be turned occasionally by hand as needed.

I'd go for a circular flat bed with half a dozen small fixed trolley wheels (similar to castor wheels but fixed, not steering) around the cicumference and a simple leg in the middle. A skirt around the outside would hide the wheels. One or more of the wheels would have foot operated brakes. It shouldn't need anything to anchor it in place. If the geometry of the wheels is out it might wander a fraction of an inch here and there but it's trivial to recenter it.

You could make it from a couple of sheets of plywood/osb and some stiffeners or 1" tube and some chequer plate, depending whether you prefer woodwork or metalwork.

I have a set of 4 skates that I use to move cars.

If I need to slide my BMW 1200 "Big Bugger" around I wheel the front into position, and put a skate under the rear wheel.

A couple of pumps, hold the front brake on and spin the back round.

The pic, stolen from the net, is not to scale. The wheel only needs to be a few mil off the floor.

I like the ptfe idea - low and easy to make

I've seen a couple of (for want of a better description) "trays on casters" that others have made up - it wasn't what I was thinking of but it might do and be far smaller to store
