So, an update and a bit of an embarrassing one... it appears to be an E11

At least, that's the socket I managed to get it off with. I managed to lift the exhaust just enough with a jack (without overdoing it and hoiking the whole car up) and got the exhaust bracket off with an E12, which gave me pause as the circled bolt is clearly smaller than those. Once that bracket was off, the bolt came out relatively easily and I could proceed with the job, which was the water pump and thermostat replacement.

Interestingly, the parts diagrams I can find on design911 don't list any of these and in fact refer to the E12s that I've taken off as "hexagon head bolts", which they definitely aren't! Maybe they got updated?

Anyway, one of the water pump bolts sheared as I was putting the new one on frown So I'm going to have to order new hardware anyway (was surprised the new pump didn't come with bolts). Tempted to order those ones and see what turns up. The current ones are in a bit of a state.

Is there anything I can put on new bolts that prevents rust? In case the exhaust has to come off again in future?
