Yep. Those car drivers who pull out in front of you and then piss around at 20mph, forcing Mr Trucker to try and anchor up 40 odd tons.

Then those that pull in front of you on the motorway with seconds to spare before the exit and anchor up like hell to avoid hitting the truck in front up the arse, forgetting about the truck they have just pulled in front of trying to do the same!

There are some muppet HGV drivers out there, but as the quote above suggests, for every 1 idiot HGV driver, there are 10 worse car drivers.

I know this and I don't even drive a truck. Just years spent travelling round europe with my dad, some of the stunts car drivers pull without having any idea just how much room and time these trucks need to take avoiding action. There should be a rule on the roads that any car driver brake testing a HGV, just gets rammed off the road for their stupidity.

On the original topic of the elephant racing, yes its annoying, and yes the trucker being overtaken could back off, but its hardly the end of the world being held up for a few mins. If that's all most people have to worry about in life, then they are bloody lucky smile

When on the 2-lane, 20 mile long M26, do not pull out to overtake another lorry, and spend 8 miles doing so, you daft tt. If you are traveling at 55.5 mph, and the vehicle you want to overtaken is travelling at 55.25mph, just BACK OFF A BIT.

Also, if you are the lorry being overtaken, BACK OFF A BIT, and you will help to avoid an 8 mile tailback on the M26, and a great deal of horn blowing and general abuse from other road users, you cretinous tt.

Many thanks.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

this has been done to death.
i actually agree with the op, elephant racing is bad. gives the rest of us that have the brains to back off and keep the flow going a bad name. sadly it will keep happening.
the same as all the CAR mlm's, pricks with fog on/off at the wrong time, and so on, blah, blah, blah.

tonight trundling down the a13, i quickly caught up with two rigid tarmac tippers, about 830pm, so still quite busy out. i was at 40 tonnes, but on the flat, so as i had a gap, i pulled out to overtake the two tippers. as i got dead level with the back tipper, the bloke suddenly sticks his toe down and is now leaving me to hang out to dry in the outside lane.
i look in my mirrors and see there are approx 4/5 cars behind me now, so, indicate left, slowly ease up and drop back to pull in behind the knob in the tipper.

i could have stayed out there forever, but hate the whole elephant racing thing, and wasn't going to play the other idiot lorry drivers game.

as the 5 cars passed me by, two of them were on the horn giving me loads of grief rolleyes

brains and coconuts.

Talking of tipper drivers. I was driving through Erith yesterday and approached some pedestrian traffic lights just before a roundabout.

They turned red, so I stopped. The rigid tipper behind me, who was on my back doors 50ft behind me put his foot down and went round me on my right side, through the lights, cutting in front of me and off into the distance.

Was one of the most dangerous and reckless bits of driving I've seen in the last few months. eek

Interesting.

I think the whole Lorry drivers easing off to let the overtaking lorry past quicker is very similar to the MLM issue with car drivers.

Some of us are aware of it, and consider other road users, and some are completely oblivious to others or just don't care.

But like the MLM thing, I think talking about it on sites like this can only make more people aware.

doesn't matter if your in a car, van, bus, bike, truck or space shuttle, some get it, some don't.

Cars outnumber trucks by more than 70:1, unless we're only talking about the tt:tt ratio, but even then, I'd wager it was a greater ratio than 10:1.

Car-only drivers insisting that all lorry drivers back off when theyre being overtaken (because that would suit them and see them inconvenienced less), should remember that the driver being overtaken has a responsibility towards other drivers behond him, as well as those alongside him.

heard a stat on the radio the other week saying that last year, of all the accidents in the uk in which lorries were involved, 20% were found to be where the lorry drivers were at fault.

so, 1 in 5, and then take into account mileage driven, nuff said.

that is a blatant piss take.
when you are virtually passed him, and he pulls a stroke like that, these are the divs that screw it for the rest of us.
i'd have been tempted to put left indicator on and have a little drift left wink

i am a lorry driver, and i can understand where you're coming from.
elephant racing is totally unprofessional.
if i'm being overtaken, then i ease off a bit.
if i want to overtake, then i check that i won't be holding anyone up.
it's simple really.
but some car drivers, usually in bmws come tear arseing down lane 2 at 100mph, they don't judge their speed against the slower moving vehicles. if they eased off to say 65mph, they wouldn't need to brake, they'd make it to the lorries just after he's pulled back in.
judgement, common sense, forward planning, and courtesy. it's not difficult.
If we are allowed to clone humans please can europhil be cloned fo rthe sole purpose of providing thinking truck drivers

Agreed, I've had it where an unloaded lorry over takes me on the straight just as I reach a downhill gradient. It doesn't take much to let the other driver in. Then if the hill is long enough, like the one on the M25 from the A217 Jctn to the A3 Jctn, I'll pull out and go once he's in.

Just gotta watch that Vosa car tucked in by the Jctn in between. wink

90% of vehicles on uk roads are cars. 6% are trucks. the other 4% is made up of all other vehicles.
ok, i was bored one day, and this bit of crap stayed in my head.

Not sure that's correct. Out of 30 million or so vehicles, 420,000 are trucks. That's more like 1.4% of vehicles are trucks (that's excluding vans), I'm making a bit of an assumption that the figures include anything over 3,500 kg as that's the O'Licencing/Tacho limit. I also am led to believe that the 420,000 truck figure hasn't changed much in something like 20 or 30 years.
