VOSA (now DVSA) do not deal with licencing laws - they deal with weight laws

Licences go on plated weights not actual weights - see DVLA not DVSA/VOSA

That's interesting, did they actually go to court or just accept a fixed penalty? As far as I was aware this hasn't been tested in court.
I don't know, I shall ask.

I have a private 7.5 tonne horsebox. Driving Test passed 1979. I still have my original paper license. I have C1 and the E section includes B8 C1 and D1 with no restrictions.

I’ve not passed any other Hgv tests.

I want to put a towbar onto the 7.5 and tow a car trailer behind it.

I don’t have 107 in the notes section of the C1 or the E section

So, from reading the above thread, I think I am OK to drive a GTW up to 12000kg?

Is that correct?

Update:

Checked my driving license on the Gov website. It confirms I can drive a 7.5 + trailer up to a max of 12,000Kg GTW.
Happy Days

Details from the Gov website:
Description
You can drive vehicles between 3,500kg and 7,500kg carrying no more than 8 passengers and a driver with a trailer weighing more than 750kg and combined weight of vehicle and trailer can’t be over 12,000kg

No you CANNOT drive a 7.5 with a trailer over 750kgs MAM as you will have a 107 restriction by only having a pre 97 licence and not passing a full LGV C1 test = THAT IS THE CURRENT LAW

If you wish to confirm what I say please call DVLA stating you have a pre 97 C1 licence and have not passed a LGV C1 test and ask if you have a 8250kg limit = they will say yes

It really shouldn’t be this complicated. It seems DVLA go out of their way to make simple things as difficult as possible.
