Transit Custom

I took delivery of my new van last week, a Ford Transit Custom Limited L2 125.

Firstly what a fantastic drive, so quiet, and so many toys for a van!!

My only slight disappointments are:

1: The heated seats are either burn your balls off hot, or off. There is no in between.

And secondly the fuel consumption seems a bit poor!

I know it's a reasonably heavy van, but I don't have a large amount of weight in it, doing a mix of motorway, A/B roads and tiny bit of town driving. I have averaged over 300 miles just 28MPG according to the trip.


I was expecting nearer mid 30's for a modern diesel?

Was I being a bit optimistic expecting 35MPG? Or does the engine need running in a bit first?


Anyone else with a custom have any insight?

We rarely see much past 22mpg in any of our Transits. They're crap on fuel of you put more than a feather in the back, but they're so bloody good otherwise that I wouldn't consider buying anything else.

We have three in our fleet at work, they need a bit of time to bed in. Normal mixed driving (town, A and B roads, dual carriageway) we get about 32-35 with them about 1/3 loaded, however that's gone up to 35-37 now I've banged the tyre pressures up to the recommended amount by Ford for Eco driving

I've only driven the standard Transit, not the Custom, but they're nicer than some cars to drive. I love Ford interiors and the new Transit is just like my Focus inside!

Ford are on fire at the moment, especially with their commercials. The new Custom looks like an absolute cracker

I have had one for a year now and think it is rubbish. No storage in the front for paperwork and no room in the rear, ok if you want to carry a couple of pairs of shoes.As a work horse it's crap. Soon as they go back to the old shape the better.

We just got our new 125 Trend after Christmas. It is great, a vast improvement over the old one in my opinion. Love the car style interior and things like parking sensors. I do agree that some of the paperwork storage seems to have been lost unfortunately.

Your wrong, this is a new sector for ford, it competes with the vw transporter and isn't a replacement fit the old transit, the new transit replaces that

Be careful with the doors. 3 of the ones we've got at work have had the doors drop because they're so big and the hinges are made of chocolate. The feller at the body shop has fixed nearly 30 customs with the same problem.
Other than that, cracking van. I love mine.

Great, good shout regarding tyres, they may not have been checked since it left Turkey....

Regarding space, plenty of room for me. I am a sparky so it's just to lug tools around etc.

If I wanted a BIG van I would have got a full fat tranny.

I have noticed the doors a mahoosive, especially compared to my old connect.

Also noticed at night, when I turn left a beam of light goes left, the same when going right, seems a bit pointless?.......

It's not a new sector. The Transit Custom is 2.7 to 3.3 tons and replaces all the old transits at these weights. The full size 'Pig' Transit is 3.5 to 4.6 tons.

All they've done is use two body styles to replace one body style. There's no variations in weights etc to what
came before.

Should be getting better MPG than that... My Autoglass tranny custom 2014 is averaging around 33.6 MPG! I hardly hang around driving that too!

Can't believe fuel consumption is that bad! I can get 33MPG from a 2.5 D4D Hiace, with a roof rack!

Keen to see how the custom does in the corrosion and reliability stakes, I avoided 06> Transits for those reasons.

I got mine in the beginning of December, total bargain! My mpg over the last tank was less than 24mpg, pretty awful I think but I have only done 500 miles and it's all short trips.
