Forgot to add, the Ford Transit custom is considerably better sound insulated in the drivers cab than the Ford Transit connect,

I drove both over 200 miles last week, people struggled to hear me on the hands free in the Transit connect, in the Custom I had no issues.
Very nice place to be in the Custom at 70, much quieter than the Connect.

I am currently using a long wheel base Transit connect with the 1.5 diesel and a short wheel base Transit custom 2.0 diesel when we need to transport bigger plant.

A Custom is a good drive as you say, it's the quality that doesn't hold up. We've not had the paint issues thankfully but mechanically they're hopeless.

The other main issue with customs up 2018? (Correct me if that’s is wrong), the security was none existent and it suffered from a famous inferior door lock housing which Ford later fixed (although it took them far longer than required to sort it).
I think it's some kind of competition / private in-joke between the manufacturers of vans to see who can deliver the most laughable security - most are opened in seconds by a scumbag with a screwdriver. Ford I guess really take the mickey for having deadbolting as standard that doesn't operate as standard (takes two presses of the button - why?)

Mines is at 45k and I’ve recently thought it seemed a bit noisier maybe just being paranoid!

Had a bit of an incident had a service and new pads and discs on the rear done at back street garage 3/4 weeks ago. Noticed afterwards that there was a bit of a noise at the back when I applied the brakes thought they may just be bedding in. All of a sudden last week it started making a noise like stick against spokes turned out they hadn’t tightened the studs on one wheel, one stud was missing and I could turn the rest with my fingers!

Ford will be issuing a recall on all 2 litre diesel engines in Custom/ Transit (and any other applications) built 2016 to September 2017 with the wet belt.

We're on engine number 11 in just over 12 months and had to fight for Ford contribution but they now acknowledge there is a fundamental flaw.

Still a bloody ballache to get the remaining 100 or so sorted..

Do you know what the recall will involve? Mines is a 2016 one of the first customs with the 2.0.

I don't know the detail but it appears to be a replacement of the cam belt. Your vehicle may not be affected as they changed to the wet belt at some point in 2016 production. I've got some either side of the date and they're going to confirm which ones are affected. If I get anything more I'll post it up - not sure it's been announced yet.

Interesting. The engine on my just out of warranty 57 regTransit exploded suddenly and catastrophically.

Full service history, 60k, Ford agreed to a 50% contribution, but there appears to be a long delay in sourcing a new engine.

Assume typo, 67 plate? If so try and push harder for 100% contribution as this is one that will be covered by the recall.

Indeed, 67 platesmile currently have a loan transit, so I'm not overly concerned about the delay, looks to be 8 to 10 weeks currently.

I'll be chasing more when details of the recall are announced.

I've had details of the recall now, if you've got a 2016/17 Custom or Transit it might be worth calling your local dealer and asking if your registration is subject to recall 20B44.

Mine is 2017, still waiting for a replacement engine. Week or two, hopefully...

Does anyone else find the driving position of Transits really bad?
I’m 6’2” and feel like I’m sitting on top of the pedals and the steering wheel gets in the way of my legs.
I’m only an occasional user but I do find Renaults much nicer to drive.

So it’s fine apart from operating the brakes? Kind of big problem.

I’m 6’4 and find it pretty uncomfortable but most vans are the same for me. The small seat and pedal position isn’t great I had an older Peugeot expert and that was much more car like seat and driving position.

Definitely an auto for my next van.

2018 Transit Custom auto.

The brake pedal is too high and the steering wheel reach adjustment doesn't come out far enough. I'm 6'0"
