How to move a 200KG stove - Tail lift?

Hi,

Not sure which bit of the forum, if any, is the right place to ask - but here goes......

I need to get a 200KG stove from Glasgow to Devon, where i am. The problem is that it isn't on a pallet.

I have found a man/van team that can get it on a pallet for a freight-team to collect, but they aren't very interested in strapping/wrapping/checking all the bits are there.

I am therefore wondering about going up myself in a rented van. Do you think something weighing 200KG 62w x 73d x 136h could be "tilted" from a sack truck into a Berlingo-type van? Or does it need a Luton with a tail-lift?

Any (helpful!) comments massively appreciated!

I moved a Clearview Vision stove (125kg) with the help of a mate. It was possible to remove the door and a few other panels / grates to break the weight up a bit - can you do the same with this one?

Most (cast iron?) stoves can be dismantled into panels and components, transported and re-assembled.

It isn't a conventional stove, it is a massive thing that runs central heating too.

Trailer is a good suggestion. Sadly the car i have with a towbar recently failed its MOT!

That must dismantle into pieces for installation, though. I think I'd have a look at their PDF brochures and possibly drop the company a line for advice.

In answer to your original question, provided you can get help & sack barrows etc., a hired Luton van tail lift will have a SWL of 500KG so you should be fine.

If it can be put on a pallet many freight companies will shift it with a pump truck and tail lift . Most will only do kerbside collection delivery though .
