Anyone who mentions the fifth wheel in any context (other than removing 300kg) doesnt know what theyre talking about. It goes on weight only. CE either got his vehicle plated at under 7.5t or he took his Class 3 / Class 2 / Cat.C HGV test.

Tri-axle, so Class 2 or Category C, depending on when he took it. He had one in 2003, as ststed in the linked article.

On a mid lift Magnum I doubt if removing both the 5th wheel and lifting axle would get it under 7.5T.
If you really were determined then a stipped out cab much lightened chassis and Carbon body panels but then you may as well build one from scratch?????

Alloy wheels might get you close, but 300kg for the trailer coupling was a totally made-up guess. Id still say get the big licence: without question itll make you a better driver, and you will always be able to find £100 a night work too...

At 64 and 4 months it's unlikely I will be looking to work unless I get made redundant in the next year and a half.

I didnt mention trailers. No one would do that for less than £150 cash a night

OK update time done a few little jobs replaced both batteries as they were not holding charge more than 2 days, amazing starter on the button every time, replaced 2 raggy wheel arches over the mid lift wheels and a very split and torn battery cover, replacing door locks this weekend as drivers one is missing and fitting a front view mirror as I find it hard to judge where the front bimper is.
Now does anyone know how to go about replacing a headlight glass (plastic). Drivers side seems to have been done and is held on with spring clips, Passenger side seems oliginal and is very degraded but has no clips so assume it is bonded on, I think the whole unit can be removed without taking off the corner panel but may be wrong. Any advice guys?
Oh taking my theory and hazard perception tests next week.
Applied for my provisional 4 weeks ago but still no licence back.

Many people put headlight units into an oven to release the bond. Have a search around for temps etc. You might need a big oven though....

Hmmm halogen heater maybe? Light unit won't fit a standard domestic oven.

Well passed my theory and hazard perception and got Test booked for 18th Dec.
Arrived at my unit to do some more work on the Magnum only to find one of the Fuel Tank Straps had rusted through so now waiting for a new one to be delivered since no second hand ones could be found. Anyone know the correct Tyre pressures for a 480DXi tractor unit when running solo?
Many thanks.
