I've often thought that it must be difficult for firms like Montracon and Cartwright to compete with the big European ones like Chereau, Nooteboom and Krone. They just seen so much better funded and much more popular across Europe while the British firms don't seem to have great foreign sales.

I think there are a few factors, common currancy in Europe, easier delivery to the purchaser and may be even better build quality.

A friend lives, eats and breaths trailers, started as an apprentice at Boalloy and has risen up the ranks.

But on the other hand, the european manufacturers don't have a huge market over here which leaves more business for the 'home' manufacturers. You very rarely see Chereau, Krone or Schmitz etc on any domestic work, it's nearly always operators that run into europe who use them.

This.

John and Stephen Cartwright were the driving force behind the business and having set up Tiger Trailers it was a case of when not if.

I never warmed to Mark Cartwright and he seemed out of his depth as MD. A shame as it was a long established company that I did a lot of business with in the past.
