What has happened? I don't normally pay much attention, but was curious to see what my old van was being sold for...

That’s insane !I remember when I was looking at Caddy’s a couple of years back the prices for tidy ones were steep then, now they’re just really over the top.

On the plus side my battered 07 plate must still be worth 5k then
They are artificially high while new supply struggles.
If you can avoid it, now is not the time to buy a used van as prices will correct themselves fairly shortly.
I know everyone’s budget differs, but if you can stretch to it, find one and have a part exchange, buy new. New prices haven’t been lifted due to supply and you will never get as much for your part exchange again.

Wow prices really have gone crazy!
Out of curiosity I looked up to see if my old (leased) company van is up for sale, found it on ebay looking very clean and re lined etc but a ridiculous price for a very basic 106k miles van!
It won't rust underneath though from the amount of spilt oil that seeped through to the floor pan (ex service van), can't see if they have replaced the handbrake lever the dog chewed up and I don't know if they know but it intermittently drops in to limp mode when motorway driving. Quick off and on with the ignition sorts that out. Also its still on the original brake discs.

My job is selling New and Used commercials, and I think currently its about 38% up in value on the majority. Its bonkers. There are vehicles I have purchased off customers, and are selling again, 4 years later, with additional 30k miles for more than the customer purchased for in 2017! Its bonkers. I don't think its going to go down for a long while either

I have just px my transit custom for 15000+vat after buying it new for 18800+vat 4.5 years ago The deal on the new van also makes no sense.
I think it costs more to run and buy a second hand one.
Going by facebook and other forums, seems that lockdown has driven a surge in (bad) home made camper conversions.
My daughter and SIL came very close to buying an old Transit safety camera van for top dollar. Fortunately they called to ask my opinion before parting with any money.
Not having been dissuaded by the whole idea, he invited me to join a Facebook group for amateur conversions. Certainly an eye opener and made him see sense, some of them were shocking.

They really have gone mad.
I bought a brand new canter tipper in 2016 for 20500 plus vat.
I considered getting another one this year only to find that now they are 26-28k plus vat which is a ridiculous increase.
Of course the used ones have gone up to simply insane levels. I reckon a dealer would sell my well used 48k 16 reg canter for 17k plus vat!

Mate bought a caster recently, 07 reg, looks a bit tired tbh, not sure on mileage but that was 7k.

I think they will go down soon ,certainly in the next 12 months!!supply and demand and there is a lot of leggy overpriced stuff still for sale that’s been on autotrader eBay etc for months ,once the factories get going and the manufacturers have plenty of stock the rental people will be offered daft deals again and the auctions will be bursting again with year old low mileage stuff ,also a lot of the big fleets haven’t swapped because the converters haven’t been working or they weren’t making purchasing decisions, then we have all the people with government grants , loans and furlough money , that will run out and the cold reality of the real economic situation will bite ... IMHO !!

Don't normally frequent these parts but needed to check the sanity of my mates latest purchase, judging by the posts here he is right.
He has just paid (yesterday) £19k for a 100k mile 2016 Transporter startline T28 so no aircon and no frills but has a "GTI" bumper on it and some 20inch wheels that need a refurb and some dich finders, he says he got a cracking deal.
What has the world come too.
