Don't normally frequent these parts but needed to check the sanity of my mates latest purchase, judging by the posts here he is right.

He has just paid (yesterday) £19k for a 100k mile 2016 Transporter startline T28 so no aircon and no frills but has a "GTI" bumper on it and some 20inch wheels that need a refurb and some dich finders, he says he got a cracking deal.

What has the world come too.
Tell him he's a mug.

I'm only asking £22k no vat for my 16 plate t6 startline with only 13k on it.

The prices of transporters has gone silly!

I sold a 2018 kombi highline with 38 k and some nice extras in 2020 for 23k no vat. Should have held onto it and made some money

You've got one of the best ones there.

MPG went way downhill on these after 2017

I've been watching van prices recently (dropsides) and they're pretty high but I have noticed alot of vans sitting for sale for a long time. Are people realising that these prices are too expensive.? Anyone think these prices are likely to go back to normal this year? Several dropsides I've looked at are still for sale 7/8 weeks later at same prices.

Yes there are some greedy chancers out there !! I think there is a supply issue but it’s getting better ish !! I need another van , new is cheaper than late low mileage used at the moment especially if you need finance , I think it’s basically A case of waiting if you can ,once lead times on new drops there will be a glut of used as extended lease deals end, and fleets are able to renew , problem is for a business if you need a van or truck you need one so waiting might not be an option...

VW are now saying at least 12 months wait if you put a order in now.

I think it will be at least 18 months before prices start to dip,I don't think they have even peaked yet.

I think dropsides may not be quite as desirable as panel vans - they're not in huge demand from home delivery outfits where a lot of volume is at the moment.

At least some of the vans posted here look to be in decent condition and are at least driveable..

i took a customers old 51 Escort van for an MOT a few weeks back, failed on both sills (surprise surprise) and a list of other bits including the smoke when rev'd.. Quoted for the job to be met with "i dont want to spend that, but if you want to give me £1k minus the mot costs you can keep it, its a future classic"

I had laughed for about 10 seconds before i realised he was serious,

I've been looking for and early T6 for months, but couldn't buy at the time. I've been in position since around June to buy but I won't pay what they're now asking. I've seen 2013 T5s with 80k going for £28k! That budget would have had me in a low mileage T6 about 4 years old 6 months ago.

No, There were several of them after Christmas, but I couldn't buy at the time. VWs naturally seem to strengthen in value in spring anyway due to people using them for the summer hols but this year has been crazy. I'm now in a position to purchase, but most decent T6s of low mileage are now out of my budget. I'll keep looking, but until this new stock issue is resolved, I'm not sure it'll go any other way but up.

Speaking to a VW van buyer this last week, the problem is about to get worse for new Transporter van supply.

He said something about a letter from VW about further delays.

Anyone else see the letter?

Aren’t the new Transpoters going to be a joint venture with Ford in Turkey? Along the lines of the Ranger/Amarok being built on the same line in SA? Will that change (if correct) add to the delays?

That would be a strange decision, VW's command a massive premium - New driveway cost of my 19 transit was about two thirds of what the comparable VW was and I really doubt the VW costs much more to build...

Seems so. The fanboys WILL be in a quandary....

Not really a quandary, I simply won’t sell mine and if I did it’ll be worth decent money.

Although the T7 has been officially unveiled as the Caravelle replacement the T6.1 Kombi and panel van will be with us for some years yet.

The Ford/VW van is a win win situation for both manufacturers as both have die hard fans and r&d costs will be shared.

I run several Sprinter dropsides and as I look to replace the problem I am finding is a complete lack of low mileage Dealership stock and also so many of these ex Motorway Maintenance Vehicles often need the platform and sides altering .

Seems I was wrong to suggest otherwise, I assume they're specialised but perhaps just in the industry I work in. Sprinter is the right call though I think.
