Just wondered if anyone can work this out for me, have the DVLA ballsed up, or am I having to do the legwork...?

I recently sent my licence off to get the address changed and add class 2 provisional.

At the same time I sent off for a digital tachograph card.

Fast forward a few weeks and I've received the licence back with the provisional on, the address updated and an expiry of June 2026.

The day before that came back, I received a letter (with my tachograph form, my postal order and a new driving licence form (the standard D1 form)), saying my licence is due to expire, and I need to enclose a new photo and £17 PO and send it back off.

What is baffling me is that my licence has come back with the new June '26 expiry, and that same date is on the bottom of the photo on the licence.

So surely if they can extend the licence without me updating my photo, they could've accepted my tachograph form?

Anyone any experience of this?

Put it this way, the DVLA staff at Swansea have been on/off/on/off strike the past few weeks. Nigh on impossible to get through on the phone. The online chat works sometimes and crashes other times.
I'm still awaiting my simple renewal.
D4 Medicals are not needed for the second Covid year running.

Thanks, I tried to get through on phone and online chat but to no avail, I was aware of the industrial action and it was confirmed on the automated phone system.

Already had my medical, had it in April I think it was.

Just think I'm going to send the form back with a new photo, and see what happens.

An unusual situation. If you have been able to add Cat.C provisional entitlement without providing a proper D4 medical, then I presume that it is only good for one year (as a self-certified HGV licence renewal would be)?

I had a proper medical with my own doctor, and sent it off with the provisional application.
