Hate to be dull but for what it would cost to do to anywhere near a decent level you may as well buy a proper factory made van that'll hold its value well and cost less to run or if running costs aren't an issue get a cheap old yank r.v, they're completely unloved in the trade and no one keeps one for long so they're pretty cheap if you haggle!

My vote would be to buy a decent used lwb vw transporter & get it properly converted, use it & sell it for a profit...it will sleep 4, be quicker, more economical & more saleable at the end & all on your current driving licence & it will fit in the space of a large car, unlike a bus yes

This has been on Car and Classic for a while.

Leyland DAF motorhome

I think it's pretty cool.

...is anybody else suddenly getting the itch too, or it is just me?

I can picture myself buying something like that yellow double decker and trundling home before realising there's no way on hell it'd fit in my garage, nor on my driveway.

Would love to have something which could transport my Caterham in the back and have a small living area... Unfortunately such a thing would be vastly impractical for the 300 days a year I wouldn't use it!

Rent it out to other PHers as a trackday pad/motorhome when you're not using it biggrin

i'd go for a coach if you were to do this

1) for the design of mway journeys
and most importantly
2) coaches have an inbuilt toilet

And also most busses have no 'key' as such. just switches or start procedures.
whereas coaches are fitted with a key + barrel (mostly anyway)

The best to convert are the ex council libary vans. Low mileage, driven by libraians, well maintained and usually insulated to start with. Buses and coaches have usually got intergallactic milage and come with horrendus running costs.
I would buy an american motorhome for space unless you have an urge to play at being cliff richard.

Awesome - just awesome...

I've driven a bus of around that type/vintage tho and it wasn't fun - no power steering, no power brakes, hydraulic (clutchless manual) gearchange on the way out - visibility almost zero.

Was fun actually - driving it to France tho?? errr no.

Time yet for our own motorhome / camper sub-forum on PH?
Been suggested before but I reckon there's enough of us to keep it going.

Cheap for a very good reason, it's buggered!
And very, very rapey.
Just up your alley, is it? hehe

As Sean Lock would say : "Imagine the DNA in the back of that".
