Hi folks, who would've thought it eh, caravans on Ph..
Anyway just to pass on info which may be of interest !
I took our motorhome (Swift Suntor, Ducato based) for a service and the garage, acording to the service sheet checked and inflated the tyres to 55psi.
I noticed the ride was noticably harsh when i collected it but on first run out it was awfull to drive,
This was when i rechecked the service sheet and what i first thought read 55 was actually 5.5 (bar) (about 80psi in old money)the max permited pressure for that tyre.
I deflated to about 50psi and that made an amazing difference, a pleasure to drive again and back to checking the rear view camera to see how many cars queuing behind wink
I cant see why it requires such high tyre pressures but is certainly better with less.
certainly worth checking if your m'home rattles over bumpy roads.

Some stuff on here re van tyre pressures, seems to be one of those grey areas with lots of conflicting ideas on what the correct pressures are.
I certainly agree running them at the plated 5.5 bar makes for a firm ride, my previous Transit based van pressure was closer to comercial vehicle pressure and was a far more complient ride.

Ducato's have famously firm/crashy rides which is the trade off for the decent handling.

The recommended tye pressures for the 02-06 Ducato which I guess yours are are very high and you can drop them a bit but if you're running near your max weight which you probably are then you should stick to somewhere near the recommended Fiat tyre pressures.

If it really bothers you then an air ride kit on the back suspension will sort it out.

08 Ducato 130 multijet (23ft) but guess all same chassis etc ?, rated at 4100kg but i havent weighed it to see how close to max it is, also tow a trailer & racecar total about 1400kg plus 150kg tools/fuel/geni etc in rear garage so must be maxed out, tows well tho' cruises nicely at 60mph.
I was told the Rwd Transit based vans towed best but the ones i looked at had lower spare weight/tow capacity and the fwd ones had virtually none.
How is the great British summer weather affecting sales?
I've been looking at a power chip ! Do you know if they live upto their ambitious claims, ie/ +25bhp and 2-3 mpg improvment ? Currently get 22 mpg or 18/19 when towing.

You probably wont be far off max loading when you've got all the gear in and all the passengers etc although the older 630g's got away with 3850 or even 3500kg chassis, a lot of Transit based stuff does have small payloads/towing weights and the rwd ones are pretty unstable too even with a double rear wheel.

For me the newer cab Ducato like yours is the best van for the job by far, we get a few chipped ones through at work but not many as for the typical Morris and Doris the standard outputs are fine, the chipped ones I've driven I couldnt tell the difference with but I only drive them when empty.

The new Euro 5 Ducato now has a 2.3 150 option which is basically the same engine as yours still, for a few hundred notes its probably worth trying a chip or try a Tunit module, you can remap these as you like and swap them from van to van too.

We've got an 08 630l on the pitch which is like yours but longer/different layout,thats averaging 26mpg on the obc so you might eek a bit more out by driving like a pensioner!

I run my Ducato 2.8 (4000kg) at 75 psi... I'm currently in Beaune, France, and on the trip down I averaged 30 mpg at 55 mph..used cruise control pretty much the whole way biggrin

Hard to believe but I've double checked the figures, and it's spot on....I got weighed before I set off, and I came in at 3875kg loaded up and ready to rollsmilesmile
