My better half is driving me mad. She wants the gas turned off at the bottle when we go to bed which means I have to go out side in all weathers and again in the morning braving the ice and snow to turn it on again to make a cup of Rosie Lea. Is it really necessary to do all that can't I just leave it on till we leave ?

Depends. We have a Truma cs regulator, and never turn it off. Except on a ferry, for some reason. We also have an E2400 heater which we can, but rarely do, use while driving.

And what happens to the hundreds of pounds of food in the fridge when the electrics trip in the night and there is no other power source for the fridge.

If not on electrics then that's a real problem!!

Leave it on. Christ we leave it on when towing, on the boats, possibly should actually turn off when travelling as that's not a real problem.

Do you turn your gas off at home? If so then OK, turn the 'van's off, if not then don't. They're both the same and chances of a leak are minimal.

If she insists on switching off, let her do it or fit a remote valve inside the van

Gas on - you dont turn the gas off at home every night do you.

Ive only just started turning my gas bottle off while we travel - never thought of it before but guessed that was probably the safer option.

Tell the wife your installing a timer valve which turns the gas off at night. If in doubt, make it up! Wife Rule number 115.

Don't turn it off. The only time you should turn it off is when you're on the move, unless you have a crash-sensing regulator which automatically shuts off in the event of an accident. I need to get one as sometimes when it's really cold outside, I run the hab heating whilst on the move as the cab heating doesn't help with heating the rear passenger.

If she's worried about a gas leak, get it pressure tested.

You should have a gas valve inside the van, just turn that off (I've got about 4 I think - fridge, oven , water heater and I think there is one for everything)
