FIRST - IT'S NOT ME!

Just came across an interesting thread on another forum (normally used to discuss parking / speeding cases)

Full dashcam video including being pulled and subsequent conversation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKySmZeT9NA

Accused of doing 110mph, but in reality only doing 68mph

The most interesting bit? The conversation between police and this individual.

What do you guys think? Or make of this?

I'd get representation...

I suspect the advice would be to show the footage ASAP, he says the officer pinged him at 10:35, at 10:38 a white Volvo goes past and is slowing down. I'd say the officer probably got the speed of that vehicle by mistake. Doesn't take a genius and would probably get thrown out pretty quickly. Lucky to have the footahe

cop "got you on camera doing it"

so, the evidence will emerge or not. maybe he'd been caught much earlier up the m'way?

Maybe this will help some posters to empathize with people who've been on the wrong end of a mistake made by the police.

LTI 20/20 Dodgy-scope?

These things without a camera attached should really not be allowed to be used as other posters say; the wrong car can be targeted by accident (alignment between scope and beam direction rather tricky to test with invisible laser) plus the issues with slip effect and scatter are well documented. All these can confuse the device without an error code resulting.

I guess they remain in service due to risk of many thousands of people seeking compensation for potentially life changing impacts such as loss of careers, should their functional capability be successfully challenged. Plus of course the undermining of the corrupt industry that relies on them.

110km/h = 68mph.

This sounds like a set-up* error with the speed gun, although whether enough data gets retained from the gun to show that in the event it's needed as "evidence" is another matter. (I would expect so...should show the units in the video)

What I really don't understand though (assuming no malice / deliberate set-up on the part of the copper, for now!), is how a trained copper could mis-judge c.70mph for 110mph - visually they look very different, even in the dark and even to amateur eyes such as mine, and the speed-differential vs other traffic (not a quiet road) would have been blisteringly obvious...or not. (i.e. either everyone was doing c.100mph or everyone was doing 60-70mph)

* Exactly HOW a TRAINED (sic) user could make such a set-up error, I'll leave to your imagination...

I fear that now this is out in the open, the case will be quietly dropped and any evidence from the laser gun conveniently 'lost'.

Personally, I would gladly go to Court to find out what the Police were up to.

The Policeman has to have targeted the wrong car there - the Volvo that overtakes on L3 was likely doing that speed and the policeman mis-identified/laser targeting was a bit off

Exactly my thought, I saw 110 and instantly my mind converted to just below 70mph

Middle Lane Hogging, yes (at times), but in that clip nowhere near 110mph.

I'm not sure the user has the option to display the speed in KPH.

The difference between 70ish and 110 is quite large and obvious.

Some of the Pepipoo conspiracy comments and crap advice are amusing.

The OP should dial 101, ask to make a complaint, and email the YouTube link to whomever deals with the complaint to see how it compares to the officer's evidence.

Guy on there says it's not possible to set a Home Office approved device to KMH, which sounds logical given exactly the sort of scenario.

I’m going to buck the trend and ask a few questions about this.

Did the copper say where the speeding occurred?
Could it have been before the footage being shown amd they just waited for him to get off the motorway before pulling him over?
The first 10mins plus of the journey is absolute silence. Why don’t they talk to each other, as they’re pretty talkative after he stops?
How long do dashcams record for? I thought it was a short period and then it writes over itself.

My view is that we’ve not got the full story here and more will come out, or more realistically it won’t as the driver won’t update the thread.

The operative word being "mistake".
The majority of people on this forum and over at Pepipoo are not the victim of a mistake, are bang to rights and are suddenly sorry.....for getting caught against the odds (with the lower number of traffic officers around).

I don't think anyone wouldn't empathise with somebody at the wrong end of a deliberate lie or mistake - but 99% of the "mistakes" reported on forums are very much not.

CABC has said as much as that.

He's uploaded one complete 20 minute recording. That's 20 minutes of driving on the M25 and A20 where he barely goes over the 70 limit. He's not selectively edited out a few minutes.

The Police were hiding in a well-known spot and you can see the Police vehicle if you look carefully.

This is very obviously genuine footage and the Police won't be able to contest it if it gets that far.

According to a poster further up he says he was pinged at 10:35, but where’s the evidence of that? Not being funny but 10:35 could be the time on the ticket and have nothing to do with the video.

I didn’t hear the copper say where he zapped him, but again, I might have missed it, as 15 mins of dull driving followed by a lot of Chinese (?) and a virtually unintelligible copper in the background doesn’t make for riveting viewing.

Indeed!

Where’s that Pepipoo salesman who pops up on every PH parking ticket thread?
