I'm tired of the airbed I have & I've been looking at the foam celled self inflating types from the likes of Thermarest, Outwell & Vango. Has anybody got any advice or recommendations? It doesn't need to be lightweight as I'm not going to carry it, just leave it in the car.

I fancy this one but it's fearsomely expensive:

All Thermarest mattress are extremely expensive, The reason is they are fairly comfortable but very comfortable for their pack size vs weight.

If pack size is not an issue nor weight an airbed is hard to beat. Coleman do an airbed that blows up two sections, you have to let each one down separately meaning if one leaks the other is still ok. Coleman also do a rechargeable pump which is excellent.

The only thing I would say about Airbeds is replace every year, regardless of if it does or doesn't stay inflated. Mine have only ever lasted about 1.5 seasons and always (pun) let me down at the worst time.

Mate of mine who loves having top-quality gear says Alpkit mattresses are very good. Haven't slept on one myself, but he is a reliable source of tips.

By far the best inflatable I have ever had, it is in a different league then anything else. Very expensive but worth the Money!

I have two of these, albeit in XXL version. I have the straps that joint them together, effectively makes it a king size mattress. Very comfortable, stable, we get a great nights/weeks sleep on them. The thermal benefit over a standard blowup is quite noticeable.

If you have mains hookup, consider an Aerobed (240v pump inside) inflates very quickly

We have an Outwell for car camping but Thermarest for wild camping due to weight & pack size.

Read a few reports of Expeds failing so may be worth doing some research, Alpkit are known for decent quality kit at a great price, not used any of it yet though.

I love my Alpkit gear too. I have a Numo, I will say its narrow and short, but as I use my handlebar bag as a pillow, not a deal breaker given the cost, and weight for me is at a premium.

This may be of interest to the OP

I got a Soundasleep self-inflating jobby, purchased on recommendation.

It came from the USA, on 110v... mad

I had to spend another £40 on a transformer for it, but it's very very comfortable.
