Following on from this thread... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... that resulted in a great trip to Pembrokeshire we're now looking to head to Snowdonia this summer.

So, if there are any family (and dog) friendly sites that are not too big, have decent toilets (the wife's demand) and are close to a decent pub I'd love to hear about them. We prefer a quieter site so don't want a club-house etc.

Thanks in advance..

We stayed here a few years ago.

It was clean , tidy and had great shower/ toilet blocks.
The local pub was a short stroll away.

The only downside was that all we saw of Snowdon was the bottom 30 feet ! Typical Wales in August !

Been here a quite a few times, campsite is lovely but can get a little damp (site is in a valley on a lake) and windy if the weather sucks.

Lots to do, walking, biking, boating and fishing etc. Forests. Stunning views

Nice pub near by,10 mins on the road walking or you can talk the forest path which takes 30-40 mins but perfect time to tire the dogs out further.

You can have open fires as well.

Thanks for the above.

I'm about 400yds away from that at the minute, it seems very popular and fills up most of the season from what I've witnessed - the nearby factory has removed the noisy cattle grid which you might see in the trip advisor comments although you'll obviously still have 400 people going to work past it in the week, shifts start at 6am through to 10pm.

I used Bedgellert in June 2016. It was brilliant, quiet and good facilities.

I also parked close to the mountain before climbing it in a free carpark. Took the Rhyd Ddu path. Really enjoyed it.

Yep I stayed here a couple of nights to go mountain biking, good size pitches, clean toilet block and good showers. Lots of dogs around (and frogs!). Just make sure you get there on time or before they close as they weren't very helpful when I said I would be a bit late. Also didn't see any kids around, felt like a very grown up site e.g. was very quiet, so not sure I would want to bring my kids who never seem to be quiet when camping. But great location, walkable to nice little town, plenty of fast food places, cafes and pubs, also Llanberis is easily my favourite place in NW, so beautiful by the lake.

Many thanks.

We may well have a night near Shrewsbury on the way up (we used to live there so will catch up with some folks to break the trip up) so shouldn't arrive too late.

A quiet site is OK by us, we've stayed on some lively sites before and when there's still kids riding around on bikes at 2300 along with the associated music etc it can get tiring. Our kids will be tired anyway once they've been out on the hills.

We stayed there for five days in June this year. It was great. Big pitch, clean and tidy and dog walks on site. One of our hounds was poorly, so couldn’t walk far with her. I got some great cycling in. One of the few sites that we would go back to at a drop of a hat.

Many thanks for that, I'd read some less than enthusiastic reviews of that site so haven't actually booked anything yet.

I'll get something sorted out this weekend.
