Hi

Not sure where this belongs but this seems as good a place as anywhere.

I’m looking for recommendations for airbeds. I’ve tried a few so far and they have not lasted well or have been rubbish from the start (not staying up)

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you

After years of trying all combinations, I now have a Vango Comfort 10cm double self inflator, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I sleep as well on it as I do at home.

However, this is certainly not a lightweight option (family & dog have put an end to my lightweight camping) and I suggest you check out the size and weight before buying.

Need more info!

This just to keep in a van to sleep on? Or are you looking for an ultra lite one?

Weather - british summer or are we going to be going to colder climbs in the winter?

Budget, these can quickly get out of hand!

I got carried away last year and bought an Thermarest x-lite because it was half price, was still £90!

Thanks all

Use will be for camping in summer - Uk - only one or 2 nights with my son

Some use at home for sleep overs (kids)

Budget £100 ish

Looking for single air bed - well 2 actually

Just want something comfy, durable and one that keeps inflated - my current 2 north went down when used the other day

Thanks again for the suggestions

I upgraded to a campbed last year. Found it much better than an airbed.

I don't think you can go far wrong with an Alpkit Dozer
https://alpkit.com/products/dozer

Self-inflating, so warm and toasty. They're also very comfortable being wider, longer and thicker than most other camping mats. We use ours car-camping and in the van if we're staying somewhere longer than one night.

Check out self inflated mattresses. They're a bit pricey but worth it. I've got a 10cm outwell dreamcatcher - easily the most comfortable bed i have.

Another vote for Self-inflating mattresses. They don't look like they will be that comfortable, but way more comfortable than either airbeds or camp beds.

I’ve ordered an alpkit dozer. Should arrive in the next couple of days. Will have a look at it once it arrives and if it’s as good as it looks I’ll order a second one

Thanks all for the help..... really appreciated

Received my Dozer today

Quick question to anyone who has one. I assume that to self inflate I just open the valve and it will take a while for the first time it inflates?

I’ve taken the cap off and it doesn’t appear to be inflating but I may just be being impatient!

They take ages to self inflate the first time around. Once you've used it a few times it will inflate much more quickly, but it's a good idea to store the mat unrolled and with the valve open, so the foam doesn't get permanently compressed. Depending how firm you like the mat, you can give it a few extra puffs of breath through the valve after it's inflated.

We've used a couple of Dozers for the past few years and found them really comfy. This year's extravagance is a pair of Decathlon inflatable camp bed bases that sit under the mats, which should make things even more luxurious :-)

Thanks for the reply

It did inflate overnight but wasn’t really enough to sleep on. It’s impossible to inflate by blowing into it.

I’ve deflated and will see how quick it inflates this time. If it is hours again then I’ll have to return it

I contact Alpkit who suggested the valve may be faulty so I can’t fault their service

I thought that you should use a pump to inflate these mats rather than blowing into them as the water in your breath can lead to mould growing inside the foam.

I heard the same about mould and damp breath, but the valve on my Alpkits (and on a couple of cheap Vango mats we use for the kids) isn't the type you can connect a pump to, so you have to blow them up the old fashioned way. I gather that's another reason why you should store them unrolled with the valve open, so any condensation can dry out.
