Motor home hire
Discussion
Evening all - we are looking to hire a motor home over half term for 3-4 days. We are looking for a 4-6 berth with toilet/cooking and relaxing space. Max price £150ish per day
Can anybody recommend a good hire company? We are based in St Albans but can pick up anywhere up the M1/A1 upto Yorkshire.
Many thanks in advance, cheers

GlenMH on here, is in the trade so if he doesn't drop in on this thread it might be worth a PM.
Good luck though as it's close to H-T already!
Oh btw when you do book make sure to check how many belted seats there are (as even if a MH is touted as a 6 berth it may only have 2/3/4 belted seats)

GlamperRV are good but closer to Oxford and I haven't checked their prices recently. I know the owner of New Marque in Huntingdon and he does RollerTeams amongst others and is building a very good reputation.Good luck though as it's close to H-T already!

Yes - hire has been massively busy so don't delay in enquiring.
Good advice about berths v belts above, too!
Thanks for all the responses, I have been trying the various companies but as you say it pretty late notice.
the late notice is because we were taking the kids to see their Grandparents over half terms on the outskirts of Wakefield. But unfortunately, that area is now a tier 2 covid area so we cannot stay over. The plan was to arrive and stay in a motorhome on their drive so we can still enjoy outdoor walks etc with them while being self sufficient. Hotels are of course another option but we are trying to replicate the whole 'staying at nana and grandpa' thing.
I am ringing around see if we can get a cancellation, still hopeful something will turn up!
Thanks again for your help, its much appreciated.

Spoke to a kiwi in B&Q last year and he had a motorhome on hire from Just Go, on the M1 at Flitwick so about 15mins from you, and he was v impressed at both the m/h and the fact that they picked him up and dropped him off at Heathrow. Google will find them
Thanks for the recommendation, they had one left! So we are off up north for half term or if locked down we will be parking at our own house! Thanks all for the help, looking forward to our first foray into the world of motorhomes...Morning chaps, can anybody help with a few questions from my wife which I have no answers for.
We have hired this.

Questions.
Is there any segregation between the 2 sleeping areas, like a curtain?
Will it be warm inside at night? (Late October booking)
Kids lights out will be 8.45pm - does that mean we will need to be in bed at that time as well so not to disturb them later?
Will the birds/ light wake her up in the morning?
Any advice would be appreciated!
I can see a likely scenario of her staying in a local hotel!

My Adria does have a curtain, as do most of the Sunlivings that I have been in. JustGo use customised Rollerteams (I think) so you may have to call them about it.We have hired this.

If you are going to a camp site or outside someone's house, then you should be able to set the heating on an electric setting of 1-2kW which will be more than enough. I have been away in -9C and not had to use the gas heating. Make sure you have a 3 pin to 16A adapter with you.Itsallicanafford said:

Depends which bed you put them in. They either get the lounge, so you have the dinette OR they have the dropdown bed and you have the lounge. This is one of the frustrations I have with the MH market at the moment: more families are using these things now and, frankly, the layout you have got is not ideal for someone with young kids. All the MH makers/importers are focussing on low profile MHs, which is not what you need.
No-one but no-one brings in the ideal layout for me: rear longitudinal beds over a garage, with an overcab bed. The closest I can get is an A class but I don't want to spend that money.

All the windows should have roller blinds on them. We can keep our MH in complete darkness inside. Suggest you take a plug in night light with you to get enough light to go to the toilet etc in the middle of the night.Itsallicanafford said:

Ours was an Eddis that had a pull out divider at the rear, i'd probably suggest putting the kids at the back and i'm sure there will be a divider, that gives you the front, the toilets and the cooker to access while there are asleep. Be warned though, despite there size they are cramped inside
Just back from 4 nights in a similar motorhome. We used peter roberts and it was dead easy
Key things we took from it....
Heating is cracking, blown hot air, so don't worry about being cold.
Mattresses are sponge and about 4 inch thick. They compress pretty quickly onto traditional wooden lats. We would look to take a blow up camping type bed to put on top next time as couldn't sleep due to lats
They're should be a curtain or sliding wall to separate the back bedroom. Take a couple of wine or pint glasses or you'll be using a plastic cup
We usd sleeping bags for duvets but duvets would be fine...don't forget a couple of pillows
All movement in the van after lights out feels as noisy as hell, nothing you can do about that. Yours looks like a drop down bed in the middle so will drop down over dining area like we had.
My missus expected to hate it but in the end liked it. Its about getting the right layout to suit you. Room is tight in these things so plan on getting dressed at campsites toilet blocks after showers and toilets.
Finally, pick campsites that suit you. We had 2 nights waking up next to river ouse in York with a pub 1 min walk away. Will be doing that again next year
Enjoy

I was hoping to take 6 months out and traverse the entire continent of Africa, -not North to South or East to West but diagonally. I was going to do it in a Land Rover, fully kitted out, sat phone and a tent on top so that lions can’t get you. In the end an expert said I probably wasn’t experienced enough to go so instead I changed plan and did a fortnight in the Peak District in an RP Rebel Sporthome camper van and just do loads and loads of zip-wiring at Go Ape.
People who read the Guardian laugh at that but secretly they’d like to do it. -They’re not doing it and I am so... I win.

I can come close (with the van we are trading in at the weekend), rear longitudinal bed over garage and a dropdown double over the front dinette. Worked really well for us for 7 years (kids don't come with us now, so dropdown bed stays stowed away out of sight).Never liked the look of an overcab bed model - too bulbous !
