New Motorhome import tariffs?

New build update provided to dealers this week, but despite chasing they’ve not come back to me! So I’m guessing it’s slipped again. Worryingly close already to the 6 week shutdown in Pogiobonsi in August.
I have a feeling we will be getting bad news again tomorrow……
No consolation to you, but I'm glad I got mine when I did - managed two long weekends away since the sites were re-opened and away for the upcoming bank holiday tooI have a feeling we will be getting bad news again tomorrow……
Van now described as leaving in August, not June, and so we will miss summer holidays with it, which was part of the maths to buy it in the first place!
But worried if it will come at all now, as I am sure the factory is closed in August (Italy) and next years spec vans will be coming in September.
I have this awful feeling the dealer is just going to cancel the whole thing on us. They’ve been very quiet the last month, fail to return any calls, and answer emails too.
Seems like selling Motorhomes all got a bit too easy…!

There are big supply issues with base vehicles as well as materials (for most things!) at the moment. I know that some manufacturers are shipping vehicles to destination countries where they're sitting at port until they can complete build.
Didn’t Fiat close their factories down for a few weeks/months during the early part of the pandemic and then resume at a reduced capacity due to social distancing reasons? Add that in with the same sort of thing at the converters and the chip shortage and you can see why dates are slipping and slipping and……Trying to find a way of blocking any refund to my credit card for the deposit now. Dealer seems to be just making things up now and seems to want to wriggle out of it completely. We paid 5k deposit, we’ve acted in good faith and it is too easy for them to cancel on us, and just resell the van at a likely higher price when it arrives.
We’ve paid full list price no discounts, but still it’s cheaper than near new 2nd hand ones due to the market.
Even if I cancel the card the refund will come back to a new card, unless I completely close my credit card account.
It’s risky, but the thought of starting again with a new dealer and order this far down the road spoils the whole thing for us. And god knows when a new van ordered will turn up.
I also received a tip off that our van is coming on time but they have allocated it somewhere else. Which is bad enough but if we then lose it completely, will add insult to injury

Would it be worth contacting the manufacturer directly asking for an update? We’ve paid full list price no discounts, but still it’s cheaper than near new 2nd hand ones due to the market.

Tell then you're not getting much info from the dealer.
Then if they try to cancel to upsell to someone else maybe the manufacturer can step in?
Just a thought.
One would hope the manufacturer would take a dim view of a dealer doing what you've described.
Still no response from the dealer as to what is happening with our van. A month ago got an email, no call, to say they could nto build what we ordered, but would build a different spec van but not til "Sept" now.
So we asked when will it be coming, and more importantly, what the difference in spec will be.
Nothing......no calls, nothing
Utterly attrocious expereince all around.

Have you tried just turning up at the dealers? So we asked when will it be coming, and more importantly, what the difference in spec will be.

In fairness we've had somewhere close to 100 orders with confirmed build slots cancelled by the factory in the last few months. It may not all be bullst from the dealer
2021 build slots? Or 2022 models? Mine is a 2021 or meant to be!
That's not including over 150 chassis cabs that were ordered September 2020 that were pushed in to 2021 and now in to 2022. We have 3 diesel powered vans in stock, we should have 150+ units in stock as an average.

Ask for the sales Director and make a bit of noise in reception and that may get some response.
Good luck: I hate it when 'stealers' mess me around. I caught one out tying to me once and complained to the owner of the dealership (big outfit in south Somerset). The guy who lied left soon after!
