6mx2m is hugely smaller than our tent (which clearly doesn’t have a toilet.

Our tent is 8mx5m and then we have a further 2.5m in length for the canopy and then another 1m for the vestibule.

So 11.5m long x5m wide.
It’s officially an 8 person which is 6 at the end so 5m for 6 people and then a removable pod in the middle for 2 which is 3m long x 1.4m wide.
You could easily have another 8 in the original carpeted space which then leaves you with the cooking area and canopy for more.
My point being a lot of space for 5 so on wet days where if we choose not to go out there is so much room for everyone.

Lol it is 57.5m2!
Id like to see a photo of that, simply to see how that fits on most pitches. I would imagine you would need to pay for 2? Your car must be weighed down below speed limits just because of the weight of the peg bag.

The tent is 63kg along.

It’s an SMax so it pretty much fills the boot. Only cool box gas and gas job can fit into the boot.

I’ve sent a link of the tent earlier.
As for campsites we’ve used it in two so far - one in Penally (Tenby) and there was no issue with its length - site wasn’t really busy. The other was a site in the cotswolds but at that time we’d only just bought the tent so no canopy and no vestibule - whilst there we saw our tent with the canopy on and saw the benefit so bought it after.

Far Peak we stayed in the field

Stayed here too lovely place.

I do know what you mean about some places with pitch sizes - we wanted to stay in the New Forest but the pitches /large ones were booked up or “too big”, so we went to the above instead.

Going camping this weekend. My mate and I are debating whether to take camping chairs. The camp site is a few miles hike from where will will leave the car, and you have to do some river crossing,so it is extra weight on the back. On the other hand, chairs make camping a million times more enjoyable.

Wouldn’t even contemplate without camping chairs.

We use them all the time in our garden as well as camping - 5 of them do volume wise take up a lot of space. We put them in the roof box plus the roll air mats and sleeping bags

If you regularly do stuff like that take a look at the Helinox chairs, and the cheaper clones. Very light and pack down small.

We have 5 of these - one broke when a mate and 3 others/his kids jumped on him which bent the frame (they have 120kg weight limit).

I got this one too to prevent any 3 people on a chair again.

A couple of those would take up more space than my entire camping kit, and several mates reckon I pack too much stuff for a fortnight awaybiggrin

Some good advice on here.
One suggestion re. chairs: if camping with kids and packing up, pack them away first (the chairs not the kids) or they’ll sit on their backsides in them and not pull their weight whatsoever in packing away.

I brought a lwb ‘sleeper’ van specifically so we could bring everything we needed for week long camping trips.

So 1 child sleeps up in the roof, 1 child on the bed downstairs in the back of the van and me, the wife and dog sleep in a drive-away awning.

Gonna need a bigger van...

I see we've segued into "what tent" and "what camper" having skipped past some of the more astute commentators who pointed out that the wife's "concern" is quite likely to be a gentle way of saying "I do not ever want to do that".

I do wonder how many of the people who are extolling the virtues of camping are male and how many are female? I think it would probably be instructive if people could declare (or we could have a poll, to preserve anonymity), since the "experience" is going to have large differences for each sex given functional differences in anatomy. Realistically I feel it's probably best for the OP to be receiving advice from women (the ones who do enjoy camping) on what, if any, measures he could use to make them more comfortable. Rather than from the men who are quite happy using the nearest tree as a toilet and whose ablutions are quickly splashing a bit of water over themselves while standing outside in their boxers. Oh and who don't have any hair to wash to start with.

Yeah, alright Flooble, but where's the fun in any of that?

I wanna brag about the enormity of my tent, the slowness of my caravan, or the 'ardness of my SAS-styled set-up.

My wife enjoys camping but it needs to be dry, with access to chilled wine, and other home comforts. An example is when we wild camped in a field at a wedding in a remote area a couple years back with no access to power she insisted on hair straighteners that plugged into car power outlet. A decent "proper" cool box will also keep stuff cool for around 4 days..though we usually go for electric hook up. Camping can be great fun and very relaxing with the right weather and equipment

My wife camped as a child and now enjoys camping with our kids.

Probably her biggest concern would be the shower blocks, but where we stay the toilets and shower blocks are incredibly clean and have plenty of hot water and places to dry/straighten hair.

I think she’d draw the line at going to a site without facilities.

We moved on from tent camping purely due to a bad run of weather, 5 or 6 trips in 2019 and awful wind/rain on every single trip.

Plus a camper van and awning with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog just doesn’t really give enough room on a wet day when everybody is stuck inside.

So in September 2019 we had a nest egg and decided to use some of it to buy a caravan and that’s been a revelation, even with limited use last year, but that’s a different topic.

So back to your wife, find somewhere with good facilities and fingers crossed you’ll have good weather and she’ll enjoy it.
