it also has a ground tent with awning on drivers side and a basic awning on passengers side. a kitchen slides out of the rear tailgate.
Thats a great setup - do you go to Kenya often? <joke>
Would a proper tent not be an easier option rather than that setup?
You have to take it all down if you want to use you car away from your site. Its an ok setup for an over night trip or if you have no plan on leaving camp for your stay.
Does it all fit in the roof box?

Pre-Covid, I go away for 6 months of the year on one long road trip. So no hurry to do anything really, not having to cram my annual break into two weeks.

The roof top tent is driven by an electric winch, 15 seconds later I have a full double bed. :-)

YES !

I retired early, at 48. Now spent 18yrs travelling.

For those who feel sorry for me, DON'T because I love it. The places you can go and the people you meet.

(for the other 6 months of the year I live in a barn conversation)

The Facebook groups are ridiculous with the amount of stuff that people take. Coffee machines with pod rack, fridge freezers, multi ovens etc it's silly.

We are a lot more stripped back as we generally go in a classic mini or I go on my own on the bike. Tent, air bed, sleeping bag, chairs, small table, cool bag, with beer. Firepit that I made myself to be ultra-compact. Weber go anywhere bbq if we're in the car.

We're going Friday and I can't wait.

Can't do that wi' an 8-berth airbeam tunnel tent though (unless you live in Chatsworth House or the like).
My comment referred to these, and bigger, which seem to have sprung up in their hundreds this year! They all seem to travel in multiple households too, pitching some monstrosity of a shelter between the two big tops.
Christ knows what they'd have done in the seventies when my Force Ten Mk5 was considered large.
I'm afraid I'm one of those 8 berth/airbeam etc campers that go with others. I've been camping 20 years now. Love it... BUT.. Having small children means having more luxuries. Fridge, Airbeam tent, large folding tables and chairs, weber bbq, sink etc.

Fridge to keep the food and beer chilled. Milk etc

Airbeam tent for quick set up. SERIOUSLY! We arrived half an hour after my best mate. He and his wife were building their 8x4m pole tent in high winds and struggled. I pitched my 8x4m airbeam tent by myself whilst my wife entertained my 2 little ones then I went over to them to help them set theirs up. They hadn't even got the poles done yet. These airbeam tents are awesome!

Lifetime hard plastic folding tables rather than regular camping stuff as the Lifetime tables are really sturdy.

Weber bbq Just because smile

When you're dealing with 2 small kids and friends and family, you really want the space especially if it rains. We camped in the rain with the kids in my old MUCH smaller tent once. Left the next morning and went new tent shopping :P
