I, sorry, my friend, has finally got his wife to agree to go camping as we’ve never tried it for a short break, I’ve not been in a tent since I was a kid, but I fancied trying it in my senior years.
The question I have is, I’ve found several campsites with electrical hook up but they are 10amp, most mention “within 25m” of pitch but I’m struggling to find a 10amp that long.
Can I use a higher amp 25m cable but obviously stay within the 10amp limit, my friends wife has agreed so long as she can charge her phone and we can have a small camping fridge which I think will fall well within 10amps.
If it’s a stupid question then I’m asking for a friend………..

Said friend would also like to know anyone’s reviews of Dwyros campsite near Aberdaron as that’s caught his eye.

Thanks

Best to use a higher amp cable. My cable is rated much higher than 10amps (I think they all are).
If you try and draw more than 10amps then the supply will trip out. It will be plenty for some lighting and phone charging.
Heating can also be run if you carefully choose the heat setting to stay under a 10amp load, not sure if that will be possible with a fridge running as well though.

Any camping hook up unit / lead will be fine. They just plug into their socket and they’re saying your basically allowed 10a but your lead will probably have a 13a fuse in it. I think your over thinking it. It just means you can’t start plugging heaters etc into the supply as it’ll overload and trip off. Nothing to do with the lead you have. You don’t need to look for a specific 10a lead as I imagine most will just say 13a.

It's almost certain that the outlet will be a 16A Commando socket so you just need a standard caravan type hook up cable like these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=caravan+cable+hook+up...

Don't worry about the 10A or 16A current rating, it's just that they will probably have fitted 10A breakers in the distribution boxes. You can buy different sizes of cable from 1.5mm to 2.5mm, both will take 10A easily & while the 2.5mm will drop a bit less voltage it's heavier & more expensive. You'll also need a converter from Commando to 13A at the tent end or look at something like this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electric-Extension-Campin...

25m for £28 with a four way 13A on the end. Most cables are orange PVC, the blue ones are called Arctic grade as they are more flexible in the cold but work just the same as the orange ones.

Your devices will only "pull" as much current as they need, which sounds like a lot less than the 10A. So you'll be fine, the rating on the cable is only the max rating. You could have national grid cables as thick as your arm between the hook up and your phone and you'll still only be pulling a couple of amps max.
