We go to Le Mans every year and usually take all our food with us. Each morning we have a full English and each evening a decent meal.

Usually the evening meal will be spaghetti bolognaise, pie and mash, steak and chips (oven variety), sweet and sour chicken and on Sunday after the race a proper roast beef dinner with roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshire puddings, etc.

This year I'm at a bit of a loss for dinners for a change. Does anyone have any cracking and not much prep dinners that are your camping favourites?

We were in a rush last night and grabbed from Aldi a complete 'Thai Curry in a bag' from the frozen aisle. It was pretty nice, and I literally said last night that this would be an ideal thing to take camping for your first nights meal (having been throw in the cooler you presumably take).

Perfect super easy but eminently decent camping food. It was tasty!

Forgot to say, and it's quite important, we have the caravan fridge and freezer compartment and my mate brings an all singing cool box that genuinely holds -18°c on 12v. So we can take frozen stuff and store it.

Think you need to look into what food, if any, you're allowed to take into France from UK since Brexit. I believe, though not sure that everything is banned, you can't even take in milk, eggs and bacon, you have to buy it in France. Worth checking

Stroganoff is an easy camping dinner.

Steaks on a disposeable bbq with a salad and fresh baguette

You think they're bothered or checking? I've seen zero evidence and I'll take my chances on a busy June ferry.

Pad Kaprao,any Thai curry.
Thai food needs a bit of prep but very little cooking time so it’s swings and roundabouts.

Salad? wink

Part of camping is BBQing IMO, and French supermarkets are great for kebabs, steaks, burgers and sausages.

True, might invoke that rule this year. But Le Mans weather...

Not relevant to you, but if it's a choice of a steamy van full of kids (+wife hehe) or a thunderstorm under a gazebo with a BBQ and a glass of red I'll be outside! biggrin

One thing I do do it roast some new potatoes in olive oil to take with us and reheat them around the BBQ while I cook.

A favourite of ours on the cadac frying plate.

Tins of new potatoes sliced into thins.
Sliced onion
Bacon pieces.
Sweet corn off the cob
Steaks

Just fry the potatoes and onions, add the bacon, throw in sweet corn, then cook the steaks in the middle of it all.
Lots of salt and black pepper , for healthy option.

Our first night camp meal is invariably a packet of tortellini (Asda do an excellent Spicy Sausage one) and a tub of Arrabbietta sauce (same source), washed down with a rough red. Pan of boiling water, pasta takes 3 minutes, small pan for the sauce, same.
But camping in general (and especially at Le Mans) for me is all about the BBQed meat, a heap of chopped fresh tomatoes, and perhaps a leaf or two of salad.
Edited to add... Murguez, it isn't Le Mans without merguez!
Thems, and those blocks of pork/onion/pepper kebabs that you get in Carrefour lick

We had them (merguez) for our tea yesterday. Blimmin' lovely with a bit of Dijon mustard. I always fill the freezer in the Moho on trips back home through France so we have a decent supply at home.

They certainly weren't when I went over in the camper at Christmas, they had a brief look but what they were most bothered about was that the gas was shut off (tunnel). I was slightly miffed as we'd specifically planned that we couldn't take things like dairy over, and that we had to go straight to our destination to quarantine (so no stopping by a shop on the way there), for no reason!

On the way back they only cared about people, not even the bottles of unlabelled booze I had with me.

Confit duck in tins from the supermarket, drain tinned new pots and roast them in the duck fat.

Little golden bundles of joy roasted like that.
