Yes, depending on application, intended use and budget to enable proper use and maintenance.

That , intend to find out today , I have this "smart" charger fitted
http://www.apuljackengineering.co.uk/product_pages...

Edit
And the answer is , no ,it will not fully charge the battery , to use a lithium battery , the existing charger will need to be replaced with one that will fully charge such a battery.

I think it's the best money I've spent but it's definitely dependent upon what you want from it. For comparison, we use our van solely off grid and never hook up, we have 150ah of lithium and run a fridge, charge laptops and other tech but the van's never been plugged in to mains. I have a large solar array and a battery to battery charger which can charge a lithium battery at 30amps so my battery bank charges much faster than the AGM it replaced and has more usable capacity.

If I was just on site and used an electric hook up I don't think the price difference is worth it over an AGM. The main benefit for me isn't just that you can use more of the available capacity but the fact they can be charged and discharged so much faster. I'm not sure of your usage profile in a caravan but I can't see it needing lithium unless you've put in a big inverter and solar to charge it back up. The do seem to be happier than AGM when not trickle charged but I think i'd still buy a decent AGM and small solar if that was an issue.

How old is the AGM one? Ours is 5/6 years old and still fine. I would probably work out whats killing it before replacing with something else.
