Have downloaded the series and about to start.
Currently on Pandemic. Thought Overkill was superb. Can't believe these are >10 years old and I've never come across them.

I'm currently reading the Paul Richter books by James Barrington. Military / espionage type thrillers but the main character is very good. You should like these if you like Reacher type books / characters.

Overkill
Pandemic
Foxbat
Timebomb.

Really good and really cheap on Kindle.

Great recommendation I am 80% into book 1 and really enjoying it. Thank you.

I've gone a bit left field and currently reading the The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickes, when I get back to normality I have these 2 to read next

Just to manage your expectations, 2/3rds through Nomad and it fell of the cliche tree and hit every branch on the way down (armed with H&K MP5A3 9mm with silencer etc etc)

I've just finished "Persuader" (Jack Reacher) and it was definitely one of the better ones.

Unusually for me I finished it in under a week!

If you liked those, try the Gray Man series by Mark Greaney. They are really good. Don't let the fact that he "co-wrote" a bunch of Tom Clancy stuff put you off.

Some of the violence and torture in the Reacher books is a bit much for me. The wife tried one and won't go near them again.

Sometimes, if there's a particularly nasty fight in one of them, I find myself reflecting for no good reason on the troubles that the loser will face for the rest of their life having had their kneecaps broken, or eye poked out, by Reacher. I don't always, just sometimes a particular fight description will do that. I guess that must say something good about the writing, if it can make me feel that way.

I got introduced to them by a female friend biggrin

She's read most of them apparently.

My daughter's read most of those I have too and seems to like them, but she chews through books.

Another in the ex-special forces turned superhero genre:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Thunder-Regan-Action-...

Not the most sophisticated bit of writing but a good story. Our hero spends the beginning of the story being tortured in a North Korean prison camp so maybe not one for the ladies wink

Another series recommendation.

Dewey Andreas series by Ben Coes

Power Down
Coup d'Etat
The Last Refuge
Eye for an Eye
Independence Day
First Strike
Trap the Devil

I started reading First Strike by mistake not realising it wasn't the first book in the series so stopped about 1/4 of the way through (which was hard as I was really enjoying it) and started reading Power Down.

Both are really, really good and proper page turners so far. Exactly the type of books I like.

Again very much in the Reacher action style of books. Andreas is a 6ft 4, 250 lb ex Delta soldier who is after terrorists / ISIS etc.

Power Down was only £2 on Kindle as well.

Highly recommended.

I'm sure that this question will have been asked somewhere in this thread so apologies in advance.

I've just finished the first two Reacher books and spotted the note at the end that says the novels are stand alone and don't need to be read in the published order. In that case, which is the recommendation for the best books in the series to read?

The early books are pretty much standalone, but later on some other characters recur and it helps a bit to know the backstory. Not crucial to any plots though.

"Tripwire" is pretty good, but that's the next one anyway.

Seeing as i've made it through the Reacher books thought i'd try the Mitch Rapp series (by Vince Flynn)

Actually pretty good, much better than Jack Puller smile and a bit more dark and grimy!

I have edited my quoted post - I've read all the Tom Thorne novels. Very good they were too. Also Mo Hayder - all read.

I'm not great at remembering what I've read until I go to have a look on Amazon to find I purchased them and read them ages ago.

Edited to say thanks for the suggestions all the same. smile
